Disney World and Disneyland are both home to some incredible rides like Splash Mountain and “it’s a small world”, but few rides truly compare to the classic dark rides that fill the park. Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and Peter Pan’s Flight are some of the best and most highly regarded attractions. But recently, some Guests have noticed a problem when on these dark rides.

A recent Reddit thread became super popular after a user posted about their experiences with other Guests ruining dark rides for them at the Walt Disney World Resort by being disrespectful.

See the full post on Reddit below from Pamnza3:

Please, for the sake of those around you who may be experiencing the attraction for the first time, DO NOT TALK DURING THE RIDE. I go often, so it doesn’t ruin much for me, I just find it annoying that people who decide to get chatty in attractions may ruin it for others who may be riding for the one and only time. Be it Pirates’ Bayou or Mansion’s Stretching room, stop reciting thing as loud as you can, stop texting/talking on the phone, stop turning around to talk to someone 3 rows behind. Shh, enjoy the ride, talk for the other 10 hours you’ll be outside. Grr.

The original poster claims that Guests are being disrespectful while on Disneyland attractions, specifically dark rides like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. Many went to the comments to share their own experiences of Guests being inconsiderate. User u/scottroberson said:

I’ve had people with their flashes on filming on pirates before. I don’t know how people can be so inconsiderate

User u/Modano1509 shared a similar statement:

My favorite has to be someone using the flash during the dining scene in HM. You literally aren’t going to get anything other than a flash of white due to the reflection of the glass from the Peppers Ghost effect. I told someone mid-ride once and they followed me out and literally threatened me because they wanted to take pictures because of the amount of money they spent in the park…I told them to just look at the pictures and then tell me if it was worth it.

User u/LazerMcblazer commented on the current state of Guests at Disneyland:

That seems to pretty much be the norm for me lately. I have no qualms about yelling at them anymore.

User u/likethelivindead shared their experience when someone was on the phone during a ride:

Had a lady in front of us on the boat talking on her cell phone on pirates.

User u/RequirementRare5014 shared their fun idea of how to solve this problem:

I kinda wish on Pirates there was a cast member in costume hiding in the caves to yell at people “yarrgh put down thee devices/dress your face with yargh mask” – that kind of thing.

User u/GlassyPotato shared what we possibly all are thinking:

Dude nobody cares if you’ve memorized the haunted mansion script. Just let people enjoy the experience

Guests may have noticed that crowds are becoming more of a problem at the Disney Parks, especially around Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Due to growing crowds, Disney has attempted to develop ways to break crowds up and lower wait times for Guests, most notable with Disney’s new Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane systems. Both these systems have been quite controversial in the Disney community, with many being left frustrated, confused, and unsatisfied.

Frightful Delights Await

Dearly depart into a foreboding estate, drag your body to the dead center of the Portrait Chamber and watch as the walls begin to stretch before your eyes. Climb into your waiting Doom Buggy and embark on a shivering journey into an unearthly realm.

The disembodied voice of the Ghost Host is your private guide through the cadaverous dwelling—home to grinning ghosts and other spectral surprises.

Glide past a rattling casket in the conservatory. Head off to Madame Leota’s spooky séance room. Float by the Grand Ballroom and its waltzing apparitions. Take a spin through a cemetery where the spirited residents regale you with song.

Beware of lurking hitchhikers—these phantom pranksters may try to follow you home!

Creepy Fun for Little Ones

The Haunted Mansion is dark and contains some mildly frightening scenes, but there is no gore. The ghostly residents are friendly and the ride is slow-moving.
