From beautifully choreographed fights scenes to the comedic pairing of Simu Liu and Awkwafina, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021) has been a major success for Marvel Studios.
Beating all predictions, it has now been confirmed that Kevin Feige is already working on a sequel for the Marvel hero Shang-Chi, played by Simu Liu.
And Liu had some fun with this week’s announcement, poking fun at those who thought the MCU movie would flop at the box office.

Simu Liu leads the cast of Marvel’s Shang-Chi, and The Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), with the Marvel Studios movie breaking all-time Labor Day box office records back in September.
Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings opened September 3, 2021, kicking off a 45-day theatrical run before the film would go to Disney+ Premier Access. Shang Chi — which was predicted to only gross $3o million over Labor Day weekend — earned over $70 million.
The MCU movie is currently the highest-grossing film at the domestic box office with $224.5 million. The film also made history for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the first to feature an Asian lead and mostly Asian cast, which included Simu Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina and Tony Leung.

Back in September, titular breakthrough star Simu Liu took to Instagram to hilariously mock YouTubers that originally predicted Shang-Chi would be a box office flop. Now, it seems he is at it again with the official announcement of a Shang-Chi sequel.
It was revealed this week that a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is officially in production with Destin Daniel Cretton returning to direct and write. He’s also in development on a Marvel series for Disney+.
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said of the Marvel director:
“Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.’ We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney Plus, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”

Simu Liu’s reaction to the news? He posted an amusing Tweet mocking Youtubers who predicted Shang-Chi would flop:
Flopped so hard we got a sequel!!

Apparently, though, this success isn’t enough for Simu Liu, who clearly wants a part of the upcoming MCU movie Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In another post on Twitter, Liu jokingly said that he’s “offended” that no one thought he would also be appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home since he too has previously appeared as Spider-Man.
The catch? The Shang-Chi actor didn’t play Spider-Man in a movie but used to dress up as the character for children’s birthday parties in and around his home city of Toronto for work.

Marvel fans have had a lot to look forward to this year with Black Widow (2021), The Eternals (2021), Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) continuing Phase Four and the all-new Marvel Cinematic Universe.
