Construction is continuing on the Moana-inspired attraction coming to EPCOT — Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana. In fact, we can now see excavations happening on the construction site at World Celebration.

If you are not familiar with the upcoming Moana-inspired attraction coming to EPCOT, it will be nothing like Disney has done before.
In 2019, Disney announced that the all-new attraction themed after the story of Moana would be arriving at EPCOT. The new attraction will be called Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana and, according to Disney officials, will be the “first-ever experience inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ hit film [and] will let Guests interact with magical, living water in a beautiful and inspiring setting.”
Though we still do not have an opening date for the attraction, thanks to photos shared by Twitter user bioreconstruct, we can now see excavations have begun on site. Per bioreconstruct:

In construction, excavation is used to create building foundations, reservoirs, and roads. It is the process of moving elements such as earth, rock, or other materials with tools and equipment. Construction workers have begun excavation on the Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana site, meaning that the work is progressing relatively quickly!
Bioreconstruct also shared the following to Twitter, showing the current state of the construction site:

And lastly, this photo shows two different excavations on the site for the upcoming Moana-inspired attraction:

Please keep in mind that the upcoming Moana-inspired attraction is just that — An attraction, not a ride. Think of it more as an experience. Disney describes the attraction as it “will let Guests interact with magical, living water in a beautiful and inspiring setting.”
Here’s how Disney officially describes the Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana:
In World Nature, The reinvention of Epcot will include Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana.” This first-ever experience inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios’ hit film will let guests interact with magical, living water in a beautiful and inspiring setting.
