For many, seeing a superhero movie is often a great way to spend a few hours as it whisks you away into a new world where anything is possible. One of the most successful superhero franchises derives from comic genius, Stan Lee. Now that Disney has acquired Marvel and Kevin Feige is helming the MCU ship, it is the most successful superhero franchise to date, bringing in billions at the box office.

However, it seems that not everyone loves to see heroes such as Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Star-Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt), Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), and so many more grace their screens. Ridley Scott, the filmmaker behind the Alien franchise and much more, is incredibly well-known and respected in Hollywood, but he does not respect everyone the same.

Before continuing, please be aware that there is vulgar language used in certain quoted pieces.Â
In a recent interview, Scott spoke on superhero movies and completely trashed them, their intelligence, and merit.
“They’re f**king boring as sh*t … Their scripts are not any f**king good … they’re superhero movies. So, why don’t [they] have better stories? … They’re mostly saved by special effects. I think I’ve done three great scripted superhero movies. One would be Alien with Sigourney Weaver. One would be f**king Gladiator, and one would be [Blade Runner].”

Scott did not target Marvel per se, but considering Marvel is one of the only companies to be heavily pumping out superhero movies at the moment, it is not hard to imagine who Scott was referring to. Especially considering Eternels recently debuted. On top of that, on Disney+ day, we learned that Spider-Man: Freshman Year will soon be coming to Disney+, among other announcements such as  X-Men ’97, What If…? Season 2, Echo, She-Hulk, and Agatha: House of Harkness.Â
His comments sparked outrage among many Marvel fans. Josh Bieker @BiekerJosh took to Twitter to bash the filmmaker right back.
Interesting to see Ridley Scott calling out Marvel and super hero films in general. When the last two Alien films he’s directed have been some of the worst in the franchise? Ridley Scott’s earlier films where masterpieces of Cinema. Lol

HalloweenYear-Round (@HalloweenYrRnd) can appreciate Scott but does not think targeting Marvel is a good idea.
Ridley Scott (as well as Martin Scorsese) is an incredibly director and I understand why he’s frustrated. But blaming Marvel isn’t particularly productive.

JAM (@JAMvsJAM) equates some of Ridley’s creations to superhero films.
Ridley Scott is a man who made Alien & Blade Runner, definitely NOT movies people watched for their script. His track record is not the strongest when it comes to ‘storylines’ — People want superhero movies to be so complex, we want to see comics come to life.

Twitter is full of more opinions from Marvel and superhero fans, and as we noted, the language is quite vulgar and oftentimes not censored, so we will cut the examples here. Overall, there are a few who believe Scott is correct, but the majority do not think that his statement has much merit as he has created some films that were not as character-based as he may have believed them to be.
