Marvel fans will know of the Darkhold from its latest MCU appearance in WandaVision. Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) took Marvel’s most powerful Spellbook from Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) and became the Scarlet Witch.

The upcoming WandaVision spin-off focusing on Agatha Harkness could delve more into her backstory and reveal more about the Darkhold’s history in the MCU. And just in time for Halloween, Marvel Comics has a whole new series focusing on the power of the Darkhold. The most recent Avenger corrupted by the dark tome was Tony Stark aka Iron Man and in Darkhold: Iron Man he gets a new horrifying armor.

The story began in Darkhold Alpha #1 by Steve Orlando, Cian Tormey, Jesus Aburtov, and Clayton Cowles. Wanda dreams that Chthon, one of the Elder Gods, will return. She asks Doctor Doom, Iron Man, Wasp, Spider-Man, Black Bolt, and Blade for help, but they are corrupted by the Darkhold.

In Darkhold: Iron Man, Marvel fans follow Pepper Potts through a new version of Iron Man’s origin story, with a new twist fit for Halloween. Written by Ryan North and Guillermo Sanna, the version of the armor Tony creates under the influence of the Darkhold begins to eat away at his flesh.

Driven mad, Tony refuses to take off the suit even as it slowly destroys his body. He decides that human bodies are weak and traps Happy Hogan and Jarvis in their suits to suffer the same fate. The suits are covered in decaying flesh.

Marvel Comics’ new Darkhold event will take place over the coming weeks. It is shaping up to be one of the darker Marvel stories. It is similar to the Marvel Zombies event which was recently adapted into the Disney+ original series What If…?. And who knows, elements of the Darkhold could work their way into season two of the animated series.

The power of the Darkhold to corrupt anyone who reads it was seen on Agents of SHIELD – though if that is canon is up for debate. It was last seen in the Marvel Universe with Wanda studying it in the WandaVision post-credits scene.

And Marvel fans can expect the book to corrupt Wanda just like Tony. It is expected the Scarlet Witch will be a villain when she returns in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (March 25, 2022). Who knows what the Darkhold will have done to her by then?
