Walt Disney World is about to kick off its absolutely epic 5oth Anniversary celebration. There will be new fireworks shows, new attractions, new merchandise, new everything. But Disney World is not the only place people can go to celebrate The Most Magical Place on Earth. McDonald’s recently announced that they would be releasing 50 Happy Meal toys to honor 50 years of Walt Disney World.
As part of its 50th Anniversary celebration, Disney created golden interactive statues and called them the Fab 50. Statues of iconic Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel characters can be found throughout Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom Park, and EPCOT. McDonald’s toys mainly represent the Fab 50 characters to go in line with Disney. However, there are two massive differences.
While most of the characters created by Disney can be found in its many movies and television shows, some characters are only found at Walt Disney World and were created to represent the Parks. Over the years, the personification of imagination — Figment the purple dragon — has become the face of EPCOT. When it comes to Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Guests will see the adorable Orange Bird everywhere representing orange groves that once stood where Disney World now lies.
However, if Guests were planning on going to McDonald’s in hopes of getting either an Orange Bird or Figment toy, they will be sorely disappointed. According to McDonald’s, here is the following toys that Guests will be able to get their hands on:
The full list of characters include Celebration Mickey Mouse, Flounder, Timothy Mouse, Abu, Genie, Bambi, Celebration Dale, R2-D2, Celebration Minnie Mouse, Sebastian, Bruni, Tinker Bell, Bo Peep, Cheshire Cat, Miguel, Joe Gardner, Celebration Daisy Duck, Celebration Goofy, Piglet, Lumiere, Frozone, Dory, Dante, BB-8, Celebration Pluto, Lady Tramp, Jaq, Rocket, Edna Mode, Jiminy Cricket, Simba, Winnie The Pooh, Cogsworth, Gus, HeiHei, Mad Hatter, Stitch, Woody, Groot, Olaf, Pua, Pinocchio, Celebration Donald Duck, Dumbo, Pumbaa, Thumper, Celebration Chip, Nemo, and Timon.
It seems that McDonald’s — and presumably Disney — have decided to replace Orange Bird and Figment with Genie from Aladdin and Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio. While McDonald’s has not said why the replacements were made, it is more than likely that it was thought that Genie and Jiminy Cricket would be more recognizable to Guests than Orange Bird and Figment.
Guests wanting to show their Orange Bird and Figment love will have to head to the Walt Disney World Resort, where merchandise for the two can be found throughout the Resort.
Are you bummed that Disney and McDonald’s chose to replace Figment and Orange Bird? Let us know in the comments!
