In an exclusive scoop from Deadline, we’re learning that Anthony Mackie has closed a deal to pick up Captain America’s shield in the upcoming Captain America 4.
This developing “Cap” saga has been preceded by the hit Disney+ series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, starring Mackie as Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier).
Anthony Mackie Will Star in Marvel Studios’ Captain America 4
The Marvel Studio is typically tight-lipped about their franchise content, except when announcing release dates, upcoming series, or perhaps leading roles. While we don’t yet know the official title of the upcoming film or what plot the movie will contain, Marvel fans can be certain that Marvel’s Phase 4 will continue to be a blockbuster.
The Falcon and The Winter Solider was well-received as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s second television series, and is expected to premiere a second season of the episodic in 2023. We have not heard if Sebastian Stan (Bucky) will appear in Marvel’s new Captain America film.
Mackie has played Falcon in five films prior to his Marvel television debut and looks to now be permanently transitioning to Captain America in the fourth Captain America movie. According to Deadline, we get more details about the upcoming script and production team:
Captain America 4 is being scripted by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier head writer and creator Malcolm Spellman, along with series staff writer Dalan Musson. This is not believed to be the top secret project tipped by my colleague Justin Kroll that might bring Chris Evans back into the fold. A director hasn’t yet been set for Mackie’s film.
We’re looking forward to seeing Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson again in his new winged garb. Marvel certainly has its hands full with upcoming series like Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, and She-Hulk. Catch all the MCU’s television shows and miniseries on Disney+ now!
