When Walt Disney World reopened its theme parks to the public after the temporary closure last summer, it also brought several changes to the parks so they could operate as safely as possible during the pandemic. One of those changes was replacing parades with pop-up cavalcades to help alleviate crowds.
Now, as we continue to move forward amid the ongoing pandemic, it looks as though Walt Disney World is beginning to phase out the “pop-up” aspect as My Disney Experience now lists times for select cavalcades.
With this being said, many are wondering if and when Disney will bring parades back to Walt Disney World — such as the Festival of Fantasy, the daytime parade at Magic Kingdom Park?
Though we do not know if the Festival of Fantasy will return, having the times now displayed in My Disney Experience for these cavalcades can help Guests plan to see these floats, just as they would a parade. The only main difference is the cavalcades are much shorter and smaller than a Disney parade. They lack both the dancers and soundtrack and focus on the characters.
For example, Guests can now plan out their day and figure out exactly what time to catch each cavalcade, whereas before, Disney was really promoting these as “pop-up” experiences to help alleviate crowds.
With the times now showing on My Disney Experience, Guests can wait at their preferred location on Main Street, U.S.A. to spot Mickey and friends or inside World Showcase to spot the Disney Princesses ahead of time.
One of the main differences between these cavalcades and parades is that the cavalcades tend to only consist of one parade float and lasts approximately 2-3 minutes, whereas parades consisted of several floats and lasted closer to 20 minutes.
So with all of this being said, we are unsure if Disney will bring back parades now that the cavalcades are no longer considered “pop-up” cavalcades, but there are still some major differences between these two experiences. I, personally, hope to see parades return — including Festival of Fantasy.
Currently, Disney has not made any indication that full parades will come back to the theme parks any time soon. Despite fans’ wish for a special parade for the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World.
