Walt Disney World’s 50 Anniversary celebration will kick off on October 1 and the Resort is going all out in preparing for the big event.
Disney is unveiling celebratory statues known as the Fab 50 — which so far include Mickey, Goofy, Timon and Pumbaa, and Lumiere and Cogsworth. Disney is also decorating all four theme parks, preparing to open new rides, and adding finishing touches to its 50 Anniversary entertainment.
Also receiving some work ahead of the epic celebration is the iconic Partners Statue. The statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse is located at the end of Main Street, U.S.A., and has become a symbol of the Most Magical Place on Earth.
However, Guests visiting the Magic Kingdom notice that there is a new sign notifying them that the statue is currently getting some TLC:
“PARTNERS” is receving routine care in preparation for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary.
The process of removing oxidation buildup from patinated bronze is intensive – involving multiple phases to strip the sculture to its bare metal before cleaning, reapplying a patina, and coating the entire figure in protective polymer and wax.
We thank you for your patience as we ready Walt and Mickey for the big celebration.
Disney World’s Partners statue was first revealed at Magic Kingdom Park in 1995 and has been a staple ever since. Fans cannot get enough of Walt holding the hand of his famous mouse who started it all and looking out over the theme park Walt had always dreamed of. The statue is an exact replica of the statue that was unveiled at Disneyland Park in California in 1993. The Disneyland version was just recently refurbished months ago.
Disney has not given a date for when the Partners Statue refurbishment will be fully complete. The process of caring for the statue and getting it in pristine condition is expected to take a while, but it is safe to assume that it will be ready by the October 1 anniversary date. Whenever the refurbishment is finished, it will be better than ever and Guests visiting the Magic Kingdom will be able to see it in all of its glory.
