The Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom is one of the most iconic and popular attractions at Walt Disney World. The spirited adventure is guided by the disembodied voice of the Ghost Host as he is your private tour guide through the haunted estate, which is home to ghosts, ghouls, and supernatural surprises.

If Disney is great at one thing, it’s fully immersing their Guests into different worlds and realms in order to get the full experience. That is why the Haunted Mansion adventure begins the second Guests step foot into the queue as they are instantly surrounded by wall-to-wall creeps and hot and cold running chills. Within the queue line, Guests will find several hidden details and secondary stories, including the Dread Family’s murder, which you can read more about here.

But did you know that further into the queue, when you approach the Poetess Crypt, there is a hidden message?

That’s right, the Poetess Crypt has several symbols on the books, all of which are a reference to the Mansion. You will notice Constance Hatchway’s hatchet, the floating candelabras, Madame Leota’s floating trumpet, and more. But within these symbols, there is a hidden message that if put into a substitution cipher correctly, you will solve!

Per Haunted Mansion Fandom:

The side of the Poetess Crypt has several symbols which if inserted into a substitution cipher, reveal a hidden message. Each of these symbols is a reference to the Mansion’s mythos including, George Hightower’s bust, Ned Nub’s bust, the Bride’s candle, the floating candelabras, the duelists’s pistols, Master Gracey’s headstone, the Caretaker’s shovel, Constance Hatchaway’s hatchet, Madame Leota’s floating trumpet, the number 13, the Ambassador’s dynamite keg and the Beating Heart Bride’s broken heart.

The key is you have to figure out the substitution cipher! (But if you need help solving it, you can visit our website here.)
