During the 2019 D23 Expo, Bob Chapek and Zach Riddley announced several big projects coming to EPCOT — In fact, Guests can look forward to a complete EPCOT overhaul.

One of the big changes happening at EPCOT is the debut of three brand new lands, replacing what is now known as Future World. The purpose of these three new lands is so that all of EPCOT will be a unity of four neighborhoods that speak to each important aspect of the world. World Showcase, which has already been a part of this park, will be joined by World Celebration, World Nature, and World Discovery.

Now, as we continue to move forward with the construction at EPCOT, Disney Imagineer, Zach Riddley, is giving fans a first look at one of the neighborhoods — World Celebration.

Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley shared a handful of images showcasing the new pavement coming to the World Celebration neighborhood in EPCOT. Riddley began by explaining:

Continuing to look at the inspiration and design details of EPCOT, today I’m sharing a story about paving. It’s a surface you don’t often pay direct attention to, but the color and texture of the ground under your feet are a primary surface for storytelling. Cobblestones, brick, curbing, scored concrete, patterned terrazzo (like the new flooring coming to Club Cool and Creations Shop that I’ve shared previously) all work to immerse you in a believable place.

But we actually prefer you don’t notice the ground too much! It’s all part of the bigger composition of placemaking that makes each of our parks and neighborhoods special.

Riddley continued to discuss how Imagineers found the new paving materials and why this specific color and texture defines World Celebration. He writes:

For EPCOT we set out to find new paving materials to define this texture for World Celebration. We wanted warm grays in a range of hues to complement the silvers and off-whites of Spaceship Earth and many of our new World Celebration facades. Here you can see some of the material and samples the team evaluates when thinking about scale tone, reflectivity and overall colors.

Funny how something as simple as pavement can be so important to achieving an environment that just “feels right.”
