Robin Williams is one of the most iconic actors of all time. Known for his work in movies such as Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Dead Poet’s Society (1989), and Good Morning, Vietnam (1987), as well as his television role in Mork and Mindy (1978-1982), Williams has touched the lives of so many through his acting and comedy.
In the Disney community, Robin Williams is best known for providing his voice to the iconic Genie in Disney’s animated film, Aladdin (1992). But did you know that the directors wrote the part of Genie specifically for Robin Williams?
According to various reports online, including BuzzFeed and Movie Details on Twitter, the directors of Aladdin (1992) wrote the character of Genie specifically for Robin Williams, and they even paid tribute to the actor through one of Genie’s most bizarre outfits in the film.

Not long after providing his voice to the iconic Genie in Disney’s Aladdin, Williams went on the record to say that he would never work for the company again after he felt disrespected by Disney.
The apparent dispute between Williams and Disney seemed to have come from a breached agreement, which stated that Disney could not use Williams or his voice to market products for Aladdin. You can read more about this here.
Legacy of Robin Williams
Robin Williams was a legendary actor and comedian best known for his improv and voice skills. The actor tragically took his own life in 2014 after struggling with Lewy body disease, which is known to cause depression.
