Last summer, Disney Parks made a huge announcement that has fans still buzzing. In case you missed it, the classic attraction Splash Mountain at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland will soon be rethemed to the 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog.
So, what do fans want to see included in the new Tiana-themed ride? Here, our Inside the Magic audience speaks out!
Splash Mountain to be rethemed to The Princess and the Frog
As previously mentioned, Disney Parks made the announcement of Splash Mountain’s retheme at both Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Park in Disneyland Resort in California. This announcement coincidentally came just a few days after a petition made its round on the internet asking for exactly this. However, it is important to note that Disney said that this project is something that has been in the works for quite some time now.
Though we do not have an exact timeline for when the project will begin at Magic Kingdom or Disneyland Park, or any additional details on what exactly the The Princess and the Frog retheme will entail, here’s what we do know so far.
In Disney’s original announcement, they gave a small snippet of what storyline the ride will follow, stating:
We pick up this story after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.
Therefore, we do know that the story of the attraction will take place after the film’s ending as Tiana and Louis prepare for a Mardi Gras performance!
But what else should fans expect? Or more importantly, what do fans want to see included in the attraction? We asked our Inside the Magic audience and here’s what you had to say!
Disney fans express what they want in The Princess and the Frog ride
When it comes to which songs from The Princess and the Frog Disney fans want to see included, many were quick to mention the iconic “Gonna Take You There”, sung by Louis, Tiana, and Naveen in the film.
Inside the Magic fan Ryan K. (@ryankiserpermanente) expressed this is the one song he really wants to see included, writing:
I just need to hear “going down the bayou”
And as for other songs Disney fans want to see included, many mentioned “Almost There” and “Ma Belle Evangeline” as well. In fact, ITM follower Bronlyn D. (@bronlyndikito) expressed:
most definitely want ‘Almost There’, ‘Me Belle Evangeline’, and ‘Going Down the Bayou’ songs! I’d love to see all characters!
And another Inside the Magic follower, Veronika H. (@verunkah), shared one iconic scene they want to see included — the fireflies scene as the characters are going down the bayou:
If they don’t include a scene with the fireflies and going down the bayou, I’m gonna flip
While Zach M. (@zachmondano) shared that he would love to see the name “Splash Mountain” still incorporated in some way as well as see the ride overall get some major TLC:
I’d like to see them update the technology of the ride rather than just stick new animatronics and scenes in, with logs sinking and other various issues I think it needs to be shown major love. I also hope they keep the name Splash Mountain in some way, it would suck if MK lost one of its major mountains
In regard to how Disney should reimagine that final hill climb before the big 50-foot plunge, several fans had similar ideas — all including Dr. Facilier, the film’s villain.
Stephen R. (@stephen_the_ray) shared:
As long as “are you ready” plays while on the lift hill. That’s all I really want
And ITM follower Lauren S. (@friendlikeme93) said:
Dr. Facilier’s friends on the other side on the way to the final drop!
Continuing on the Dr. Facilier train, Inside the Magic follower Robin C. (@robinc_26) shared what they would like to see from the villain:
Definitely hope something like ‘friends on the other side’, would love to see dr facilier in there
And lastly, Candance D., (@candacedelk), who is a huge Tiana fan, is just really excited to see what’s to come — but she does want to see Disney Imagineering fix the audio within the ride:
Honestly I’m so open to anything they want to do because she’s my favorite I just hope to god they fix the audio in that ride ? it’s so dang hard to hear and understand anything
At this time, we do not know when Disney will begin making any changes to Splash Mountain, when the ride will close for the major retheme and refurbishment, or when the new Tiana-themed attraction will debut at Disneyland and Disney World, but Inside the Magic will keep you updated as we get information.
