Although all Disney Parks fans have had their challenges this year with the closure of every Disney theme park worldwide due to the ongoing pandemic, Disneyland fans have had it the toughest. But now, we have some good news regarding Legacy Passholder discounts!

After a full year of closures, Disneyland locals, fans, and former Annual Passholders have not been able to experience the magic of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. During the past year, another hit that many Disneyland fans, specifically Disneyland Annual Passholders, had to endure was the “sunsetting” of Disneyland Annual Passes. Now, all Annual Passholders who had active Annual Passports as of March 14, 2020, are considering Legacy Passholders.

Right now, the biggest benefit to being a Legacy Passholder is the discount that can still be applied to purchases at Downtown Disney. Before, it was unclear how long that perk would last, but now we have an update. It has been reported and confirmed by Disney that until a new Annual Pass program is put in place, the Legacy Passholder discount will be available. So, this means former AP discounts will still be valid at A Touch of Disney, the upcoming event at Disney California Adventure, as well as at the Downtown Disney District!

Legacy Passholders have recently received an email that explains how they can apply the discount to their mobile device. Starting on March 16, Legacy Passholders must show a new digital ticket version of their Annual Passport and photo I.D. to receive the discount.

If you have previously linked your Passport to your Disney account through the Disneyland app, you have nothing to worry about! A new digital discount ticket will automatically be updated to your account through the app in the Tickets and Passes section.

If you have not linked your pass, an email will be sent to you in the next few weeks which will outline what steps must be taken to obtain the new discount. Below is Disney’s full email that was sent to Disneyland Legacy Passholders which details exactly what steps each Passholder would need to do to receive the discount on their app.

Dear Legacy Passholder,

The next time you visit Disneyland Resort, there will be a new way to validate and process your applicable discount.

You may continue to enjoy your applicable discounts, based on Passport type, on select merchandise and food and beverages at select locations until new membership offerings are announced. Beginning tomorrow, you must show a new digital discount ticket as well as your Annual Passport and valid photo identification in order to receive your applicable discounts. If you are unable to present your Annual Passport and valid photo identification with the discount ticket, the discount will not be applied.

If you have previously linked your Passport to your Disney account through the Disneyland app*, a new digital discount ticket will automatically be updated to your account via the app—it may take up to three days from the date of this email to show. To view your discount ticket, simply open the Disneyland app, tap “Tickets and Passes,” and your digital discount ticket will be available to view. You will then be able to use your new digital ticket barcode to validate your discount—in addition to showing your Annual Passport and valid photo identification—when making select merchandise or food and beverage purchases.

If you have not previously linked your Passport to your Disney account, we will send an email in the coming weeks with easy instructions on how to obtain and link your new digital discount ticket to your Disney account. Or, in case we are not able to reach you by email, you may contact Passholder Member Services at (714) 781-4567 or use the chat feature via the Disneyland app to help you link your discount ticket to your Disney account. Online registration is required.

Your new Legacy Passholder discount ticket will show an expiration date of April 30, 2021. Please note, this expiration date will be automatically extended until new membership offerings are announced, and you may continue to receive applicable discounts until that time. To check for the updated expiration date of your digital discount ticket, view the ticket in the Disneyland app or visit Disneyland.com/LegacyPassholderDiscounts.

Once the discount ticket is linked to your Disney account, you are all set and can begin to show the discount ticket through the Disneyland app to validate your discount. Just present your new Legacy Passholder discount barcode on the discount ticket in the app (along with your Annual Passport and valid photo identification) when you are ready to make an eligible purchase, or enjoy your discounts on select purchases in the app when using mobile order or mobile checkout.

Please be sure to link your digital discount ticket prior to your next visit to the Disneyland Resort.

If you have any questions or have trouble linking your digital discount ticket, please contact Passholder Member Services at (714) 781-4567 or use the chat feature via the Disneyland app.

The timing of this new discount is quite perfect considering A Touch of Disney begins this week! The event, which will allow Guests to once again enter all of Disney California Adventure (and not just Buena Vista Street via Downtown Disney), will now have Legacy Passholders satisfied because they will be able to save money off applicable food and merchandise while at the event while exploring Disneyland Resort property.

Bob Chapek announced that Disney would like to reopen Disneyland Resort by the end of April, now that Governor Newsom updated the “Blueprint for a Safer Economy” which will allow the parks to reopen in tier 2. So, it will be interesting to see if a new Passholder program is in place by that point. But either way, it’s great to know that Legacy Passholders will be able to use their AP discounts on shopping and dining at A Touch of Disney — as well as at the theme parks, if there is not a new AP program rolled out by the time the theme parks reopen.

From WandaVision photo opportunities to reservations for entry into the new Star Wars Trading Post at Downtown Disney, Legacy Passholders have been given quite a few perks while the parks remained closed.

Will you be using your Legacy Passholder discount at the Downtown Disney District or A Touch of Disney anytime soon? Let us know in the comments!
