Universal Hints VelociCoaster May Be Ready to Roar Sooner Than Expected  - Inside the Magic

Universal’s VelociCoaster is on the way to its opening date in summer 2021, but now, it seems there is a chance we will get to hop on our velociraptor even sooner than expected.

Universal recently released an interview with Gregory Hall and Shelby Honea, the Art Director and Show Producer of VelociCoaster where lots of exciting information was learned about the coaster. After we were able to stop freaking out over Steven Spielberg’s approval of the attraction, we noticed that Universal had more to say about the VelociCoaster’s upcoming debut.

Writer Katie Schmidt noted:

With just a few months between now and the opening of the coaster (announcement coming soon!), Greg and Shelby are gearing up for the final stages, looking forward to guest reactions, and looking back on how far they’ve come so far with this project.

As we mentioned, at the moment, we know that VelociCoaster will open in summer 2021, however, a specific date has yet to be mentioned. Schmidt indicates that there are only a few months until opening and an announcement about that date forthcoming — which is exciting news for VelociCoaster fans!

For Universal to admit that there is an opening date announcement in the future means that the coaster is approaching the finish line. It also could mean that summer 2021 could mean a June opening — or possibly earlier.

Is there a chance Jurassic World‘s VelociCoaster will open before summer 2021?

I personally think there is, and here is why. VelociCoaster is already testing masked riders on the coaster, which would mean Universal has deemed the ride safe enough for human testing. Before this, Universal was also testing VelociCoaster from the ride start to finish without any noticeable issues or malfunctions (speculated from videos we have seen, of course).

It also could be a great way to get guests who want to be the first to ride, to purchase a Universal Annual Pass. Here is my thinking. Universal is currently marketing a fantastic deal with their Annual Passes offering 15 months for the price of 12. Considering the financial hardship that the theme park sector of Universal is currently undergoing, an incentive like this may be their attempt to bring up their revenue. Universal also has certain perks for Passholder at times, such as early entry for rides that have yet to fully open. For example, Super Nintendo World just underwent a soft opening for select guests as well in Japan! If Universal did offer Passholders the chance to ride VelociCoaster in a soft opening set, it could be the push that many guests need to commit. 

Again, that is just my own speculation. We will have to wait for official word from Universal on when and how the VelociCoaster will open!
