Walt Disney World — the Most Magical Place on Earth — is one of the most popular vacation spots for families from all around the world. People come from other states as well as other countries just to see Cinderella Castle or the Tree of Life up close and personal.

However, due to the current pandemic, travel has been a bit more difficult than it has in years past. There are certain travel restrictions in place, as well as health and safety measures, that make traveling during this time very different than prior to the pandemic. But, if you are looking to get away for a little while and “escape reality” to visit Mickey Mouse and the gang, even if it isn’t with your friends and family, I say try it out!

In fact, I honestly think that right now is the best time to book a solo trip, and here’s why.

If you are planning to visit Walt Disney World, please remember that visiting Walt Disney World Resort or any other public place in the middle of the ongoing pandemic comes with its own risk. You can visit the official Disney World website for more information.

Cast Members Create Special Magic

While I was visiting Walt Disney World recently in January 2021, I experienced so many extra magical moments, and I think it was because I was by myself. Cast Members notice when you are a party of one and once they do, they go that extra mile to really make you feel special.

I had several PhotoPass photographers treat me exceptionally well by taking me to different spots and having me pose in various ways just so I was able to get that “picture perfect” moment.

I also had several bus drivers make me smile and go out of their way to make my day. One bus driver at Disney’s Polynesian Resort asked me where I was traveling, after which I responded with Disney’s Pop Century Resort. She was supposed to go to Disney’s Contemporary Resort next but she looked at her watch, saw that she had a little bit of time and noticed that no one else was waiting, and told me to hop on the bus so she could take me straight to my Resort rather than having me wait to catch a Disney Springs bus and then another bus to Pop Century. She went out of her way to make a bit of magic happen, and it did not go unnoticed.

Another bus driver I encountered was at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort; once he saw I was alone, he gave me the “V.I.P. seating” (the seats right behind the driver). Once everyone was on board, he came back over to me and joked that “the flight attendant would be around shortly with complimentary champagne.” It’s little things like this that really stick with you and make you feel extra special when traveling alone.

Disney Characters Give Extra Love

Not only do the Cast Members give you special treatment when you are a party of one, but the Disney Characters do as well. Jack Sparrow was visiting Guests in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom and he was just about to head inside when I walked up. I noticed him start to walk away so I put my phone down, but he saw me and said “Sweetheart, you’ll be my last one,” and allowed me to snap a quick selfie with him before he checked on the Black Pearl.

And then there was Stitch, who saw me patiently waiting for my turn for a photo. Once he finished his interaction with the little ones next to me, he came over and pointed. He told me he loved my ears and my outfit and then blew me a kiss before posing for a selfie with me.

Disney’s Magical Express

One of my personal favorite (and most magical things) about arriving at Walt Disney World Resort is the Magical Express transportation service, which transports Guests from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Walt Disney World Resort hotels for no extra fee! Yes, that’s right this is a complimentary service that Guests can take advantage of, however, Disney recently announced that the Magical Express service would be coming to an end in 2022.

I really think that people should take advantage of the Magical Express service for the remainder of this year while you still can. It is so convenient for Guests — especially of you are a solo traveler because you don’t have to worry about renting a car, riding in an Uber or Lyft vehicle by yourself, or finding another mode of transportation from the airport to your Disney World Resort.

Bottom line — Take advantage of Disney’s Magical Express throughout the rest of 2021 and enjoy the solo trip!
