Amid the ongoing pandemic, many Disney fans, families, and hopeful travelers are craving a Disney vacation but aren’t too sure when they will feel comfortable going. Many people have had to cancel their 2020 vacations because of the pandemic, and they haven’t yet decided when they want to rebook.
But there are many benefits to booking a trip far in advance. Early booking allows you the option of having a trip to look forward to in the future without the stress of having to travel within the next few months. You can plan ahead, put down a minimum deposit, and spend the time researching and getting comfortable with taking a trip — all several months or even upwards of a year in advance of your vacation.
Additionally, this year Disney has implemented flexible cancelation and modification policies. That means if you decide you need to postpone your vacation for any reason, chances are you will be able to do so.
Below are more details about booking a Disney trip early, whether you want to go to Disney World, Disneyland, or on a Disney Cruise.
How far in advance can you book a Walt Disney World vacation?
Walt Disney World Resort has been open since July 2020 after a temporary closure due to the pandemic. And although many Disney fans and WDW Annual Passholders have been visiting the parks and still plan to take trips this year, there are others who are opting to visit in 2021 and beyond, just in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary.
So, how far in advance can you book a Disney World vacation? As of right now, you can book a Disney World trip anytime from this month through December 2021. And as 2020 ends and we enter next year, that means 2022 vacation bookings will start to open up over time, as well. So, for example, with this article being published in mid-October, you can book a Disney World vacation around 14 months in advance.
Additionally, when it comes to cancelations and modifications, those are flexible, too. As always, you can book a Walt Disney World vacation package (room + tickets) and only put down a refundable $200 deposit, with the full cost of your vacation being due 30 days before your arrival. You can cancel or modify your trip at no extra cost up to 30 days before your arrival. And if you need to explore your options in advance of your vacation, whether you’re within the 30-day arrival window or not, you can call (407) 939-6244.
How far in advance can you book a Disneyland vacation?
At the time of this article’s publication, Disneyland Resort is still closed temporarily, and we don’t yet have a reopening date. However, they are accepting new hotel bookings still. And many are trying to book hotel reservations for later in 2021 in hopes of visiting Disneyland and Disney California Adventure a few months after the theme parks have reopened.
When it comes to booking a reservation at one of the hotels of the Disneyland Resort, it’s fairly simple. Currently, Disneyland Resort is only allowing new hotel reservations for Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel, and Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa through December 31, 2020. However, during normal circumstances, a hotel stay at the Disneyland Resort can be booked much more in advance. As soon as 2021 rates are released, we will update this article.
Note that, on the bright side, Disneyland Resort hotels are allowing very flexible cancelations and modifications. Disney is waiving all change and cancelation fees up to the date of check-in for the duration of the closure period. If you have any questions about your stay, you can call (714) 520-5050.
How far in advance can you book a Disney Cruise?
Currently, Disney Cruise Line departures are suspended through at least December 6, 2020. However, as usual, Disney Cruise Line trips can be booked very far in advance. Currently, vacations can be booked through all of 2021. But if you want to start booking a trip for 2022 — that’s over a year in advance — then below are the dates to keep in mind:
