Disney Parks in the U.S. have been closed for well over a month, but that hasn’t stopped people from trying to experience the Most Magical Place on Earth. A Florida man was caught camping on a deserted part of Walt Disney World Resort property. Now, he’s facing trespassing charges and he has been banned from the Disney Parks.
Many Disney fans’ first instinct may be that this man was caught camping at The Campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, or maybe he was sneaking into Disney’s Animal Kingdom to see that park’s of Discovery Island at night. Instead, this camper was caught on the old, abandoned Discovery Island in the middle of Bay Lake.
WKMG News 6 reports that on Thursday night, 42-year-old Richard McGuire was spotted on Disney World property. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office say that Orange County deputies had to search for McGuire not only on foot, but also by helicopter and boat before finally catching and arresting him.
Deputies had been using a loud speaker to address the Florida man, but he said he couldn’t hear them. McGuire had been allegedly sleeping inside one of the buildings on Discovery Island, an area in the middle of Bay Lake adjacent to Magic Kingdom. The island has been abandoned for years, but that didn’t stop McGuire from camping there since at least this past Monday or Tuesday. According to him, it was a “tropical paradise.”
He had planned to stay on the Disney property for around one week. The sheriff’s office arrest report says McGuire claims he was unaware that the property was off limits.

The 42-year-old Floridian was arrested and charged with trespassing on posted property. He has been ordered not to return to Walt Disney World Resort property again.
The story of McGuire’s arrest comes not long after other trespassing stories have come to light. Just a couple weeks back, a man was arrested for trespassing on Disneyland Resort property in California. Police suspected he had been attempting to steal from a construction site in Disney California Adventure, where the new Marvel-themed land, Avengers Campus, will be located.
Another arrest occurred at Tokyo Disney Resort, where a teen was arrested for attempting to enter the resort’s shopping, dining, and entertainment district similar to Disney Springs.
