The Haunted Mansion is back open today. After being closed for over four days for unknown technical issues, the cult classic is operational once again in Liberty Square of the Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World.
The Haunted Mansion is still closed. The iconic Magic Kingdom attraction shut down for undisclosed technical issues on March 3 and has remained closed since. Walt Disney World cast members reported the attraction is unlikely to re-open today, extending the surprise shutdown to its 4th day. The MyDisneyExperience app also shows Big Thunder Mountain Railroad still “Temporarily Closed” today.
On Tuesday, March 3, the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World was closed due to technical issues. While this is hardly breaking news, the issues–still unknown–have caused the Haunted Mansion to experience an unscheduled multi-day closure disappointing Magic Kingdom guests. The Haunted Mansion closure was also the start of a chain reaction that saw a total of 4 of the Magic Kingdom’s most popular rides were shut down this morning.
Let’s break down the situation (pun very much intended):
The Haunted Mansion Breaks Down
According to Walt Disney World Cast Members, “The attraction is down but it isn’t on scheduled refurbishment so it must be some sort of technical issues.” The beloved dark ride and original Walt Disney World attraction was reported down yesterday for at that time unknown reasons. While many devotees suspect it was one of the 999 Happy Haunts causing mischief, no real answer was given. Unconfirmed reports yesterday stated the ride would be closed for several days, but Inside the Magic waited until today in an effort to only report confirmed facts on this story. At this time, no reopening time has been declared.
Three Other Magic Kingdom Rides Shut Down
On the morning of March 4, the Magic Kingdom opened with the Haunted Mansion still closed. But it wasn’t the only ride reported down. Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad were also reported closed around 9 a.m. EST. Both Mountain rides are in the same vicinity as Haunted Mansion.
Soon after that, another favorite was reported temporarily closed: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in Fantasyland. At the time this article was written, Splash Mountain is back up and running. Mine Train, Thunder Mountain, and Haunted Mansion still remain closed.
While yes, this is nothing new, it is surprising to see such a fan-favorite ride suffer such a sudden multi-day breakdown and it also surprising to see so many E-ticket rides closed so unexpectedly at the same time. This news also occurred so shortly after the sinking incident.
“How do you know it was a surprise?”
We know this is an unexpected ride closure because while the MyDisneyExperience app keeps us updated on a ride’s status in realtime, the Walt Disney World website does not register a scheduled closure for Haunted Mansion. According to Disney World’s website, the Haunted Mansion should be up and running right now in Liberty Square. We also had several Cast Members at Walt Disney World Guest Relations initially tell us that the ride was operational, before then sharing that the ride is, indeed, experiencing unplanned downtime. Disney was unable to share when the ride will be back up and running since this downtime was unexpected.
So, for realtime updates on rides and attractions at any Disney theme park, we recommend you check The app or the My for the most accurate information (depending on which resort you’re going to).
