If you’re a big fan of riding on the Walt Disney World Monorail, you love resort hopping, and you fantasize about watching the Magic Kingdom fireworks from a stunning viewpoint, then the Highway in the Sky Dine Around is for you. Walt Disney World offers a luxurious progressive dinner experience that takes you by Monorail to various stops at the deluxe resorts. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

What is the Highway in the Sky Dine Around?

The Highway in the Sky Dine Around is a progressive dinner in which guests travel by Monorail to three Disney Resort hotels and dine on a five-course meal. It’s more luxurious than your typical theme park dining experience but not as fancy as Victoria and Albert’s, and it’s a whole lot of fun.

You start the evening at Disney’s Contemporary Resort for appetizers and specialty cocktails at The Wave…of American Flavors. Next, you’ll head to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort for island-inspired libations and appetizers. For anyone who loves the food at the Poly, you’ll love this!

Afterward, the Monorail will take you to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, where you’ll enjoy champagne and a selection of cheeses or charcuterie. Also at the Grand, you’ll head to Citricos for a Chef’s main course selection.

Finally, your fifth and final course will be at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. You’ll head to a private patio for desserts, cordials, and coffee with a view of the Happily Ever After fireworks spectacular at Cinderella Castle at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. There’s truly nothing like watching the fireworks from the top of the Contemporary, something that every Disney fan should add to their bucket list.

How much does it cost?

Of course, every signature dining experience at Walt Disney World comes at a price, and the Highway in the Sky Dine Around is pretty steep. It’s priced at $170 per person plus tax, although gratuity is included, and you cannot use Disney Dining Plan credits for this meal. Also, keep in mind that it’s an experience that is intended for guests who are 12 or older, and alcohol will of course only be served for those 21 or older.

Is there a dress code?

Yes, there is a dress code. Since this is a signature dining experience at Walt Disney World, the Highway in the Sky Dine Around requires guests to adhere to a specific dress code, which you can read about below (courtesy of Disney). Keep in mind that even though there is a dress code, it’s not a black-tie event — nicer clothes than your typical theme park and vacation wear should be fine. Take a look at the dress requirements:

Men must wear khakis, slacks or dress shorts and collared shirts. Jeans may be worn if in good condition. Sport coats are optional.

Women must wear Capri pants, skirts, dresses or dress shorts. Jeans may be worn if in good condition.

Not permitted are tank tops, flip-flops, swimsuits, swimsuit cover-ups, hats for gentlemen, cut-offs, torn clothing and t-shirts with offensive language and/or graphics.

A less expensive alternative

A price of $170 can seem pretty steep, and even though a lot is included in this experience, it might not be worth it to you if you’re traveling on a budget or with a larger group of people. A great way to experience a tour of the Walt Disney World resorts by Monorail and eat along the way is to visit the quick service dining locations and lounges. Here’s an itinerary you can try if you’re on a budget.

Start off your evening with drinks at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Then, head to the new Enchanted Rose Lounge at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa for some appetizers and light bites. Next, go to Disney’s Contemporary Resort for dinner at Contempo Café before taking the Monorail back to the Poly. There, grab a Dole Whip for dessert at Pineapple Lanai and watch the Happily Ever After fireworks from the beach.
