For those unfamiliar with Avatar, Disney has also provided some insight into the film’s storytelling and success, which you can read from their press release below:

Written by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, “Avatar” takes us to the amazing world of Pandora, where a man embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save both the people he learns to love and the place he now calls home. The film stars Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Wes Studi and Laz Alonso. Director James Cameron takes audiences to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where reluctant hero Jake Sully (Worthington) sets out on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a courageous battle to save a civilization. Known for his ability to tell deeply human, relatable stories on an expansive, visually immersive canvas, Cameron pushes the boundaries of modern filmmaking with innovative techniques and universal human stories that make this film a must-see experience for audiences of all ages.

The success of Avatar led Disney Imagineering to collaborate with Cameron to bring to life Pandora — The World of Avatar, an immersive land within Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park at Walt Disney World. The land is home to two fan-favorite attractions — the thrilling Flight of Passage and the beautiful Na’Vi River Journey — which are still popular and highly difficult to get FastPass reservations for two years after the land first opened back in spring 2017. The glowing plants, out-of-this-world creature sounds, floating mountains, atmospheric noises, and Cast Members all help contribute to this land’s immersive quality.

Disney shared that making Avatar available on the Disney+ streaming service is just another way that they are able to usher in a new generation of fans through the compelling storytelling and stunning visual effects of the film. Cameron even signed on for more Avatar sequels with Disney. Fans of the original movie were thrilled to find this out, and new fans who didn’t fall in love with Avatar until visiting Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are happy to know that the story is continuing.
