“We recognize how important it is for our crew members to be able to stay in touch with their families and friends, and we’re proud to provide this benefit,” said Disney Cruise Line President Jeff Vahle.
The new free texting capability is now being rolled out for crew members across all four ships — the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy — in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. While onboard any of the Disney Cruise Line ships, crew members with iOS and Android devices will be able to both send and receive unlimited text members as well as use WhatsApp.
More than 40% of the crew members onboard the Disney Magic signed up for the free unlimited texting offer within the first 24 hours of it being announced on the Disney Magic. Throughout the next three weeks, free texting will be implemented on the Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy. It’s safe to say this service will also be offered on the new Disney Cruise Line ships once those begin sailing in the coming years.
“This is another way Disney continues to provide a great crew experience for our shipboard teams,” said Vahle, as Disney is reportedly the first major cruise line that offers a service like this to its crew members. This distinguished offer seems to be just another thing that makes up what fans know as the “Disney Difference,” something that sets Disney vacations and services apart from others.
In an interview with Seatrade Cruise News, Vahle shared that providing employee benefits and satisfaction is vital to ensuring Disney crew members a happy work environment. He said that the majority of employees stay or leave their jobs based on the leaders they have.
“Our job as leaders is to help them do their best job every day,” Vahle said. And by the sounds of it, this new texting service will only help crew members to be their best selves, as allowing for better (and free!) communication with their loved ones will lead to a happier work experience onboard the ships.
Vahle also noted that the internet service onboard the Disney cruise ship is an issue that crew members often share they hoped will be improved. All cruise lines face the challenge of internet service since it can be so expensive. Disney does provide a discounted Wi-Fi package for its crew members, but this free texting will hopefully help as well.
Plus, with the holidays coming up, we’re sure that crew members who are working throughout the holiday season will appreciate being able to contact their friends and families back home, free of charge.
