Disney Cruise Line is now supplying personal hygiene kits to help the people in The Bahamas in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.
Over 100 Disney Cast Members banded together at the Disney Cruise Line office in Celebration, Florida, in order to put together over 1,500 Clean the World personal hygiene kits. Each kit was filled with soap, shampoo, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and socks. Disney Cruise Line used the Disney Dream to deliver the kits to Nassau. There, Disney Cruise Line employees partnered with Clean the World — an organization that recycles hotel soaps and amenities — to distribute the kits to shelters for Hurricane Dorian evacuees from Abaco and Grand Bahama.
“Our Disney team cares deeply about the well-being of our friends and neighbors in The Bahamas,” Disney Cruise Line president Jeff Vahle stated. “Our cast members were grateful for the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and come together to pack these much-needed kits and provide support beyond the financial donations. We hope these everyday essentials will make life a little more comfortable for those families living in shelters.”
This news comes in the wake of Hurricane Dorian, which shook the islands of The Bahamas and displaced several hundred people from their homes. Hurricane Dorian struck The Bahamas as a Category 5 storm, with deadly storm surge and winds gusting in excess of 200 miles per hour. Parts of the Bahamas received as much as 35 inches of rain.
After Hurricane Dorian struck last month, The Walt Disney Company committed $1 million to non-profit agencies with the intention of helping hurricane relief and recovery efforts in The Bahamas.
“The Bahamas is such a special place to us and our guest, and we have watched the devastation created by Hurricane Dorian with concern and heartache,” Disney Cruise Line president Jeff Vahle said in a statement after Disney announced its commitment to helping The Bahamas.
Disney Cruise Line also donated food, water, medical supplies, generators, and construction materials to The Bahamas after the hurricane. The company has also provided an additional $500,000 in supplies for the communities where its Bahamian-based crew members live as well as direct aid to its employees affected by the hurricane’s destruction.
We hope Disney Cruise Line continues its efforts to support the victims of Hurricane Dorian in The Bahamas, and we send our well wishes to those affected.
