Credit: NOAAThe Walt Disney Company, alongside the Disney Cruise Line, just announced that they will donated more than $1 million in cash in support of all those affected by Hurricane Dorian in The Bahamas.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger stated, “The Walt Disney Company stands with the people of The Bahamas affected by Hurricane Dorian.”
“We hope our $1 million donation will provide much-needed relief and help our neighbors, colleagues, and all those impacted by this devastating storm begin the long process of recovery as they work to put their lives and communities back together,” Iger continued.
The Walt Disney Company has committed to $1 million in donations to non-profit relief agencies in effort to recovery and rebuilding efforts. The money will also go to toward supplies, including food staples and basic construction materials. In addition to donations, Disney employees in the impacted areas of The Bahamas with immediate needs will be granted access to a range of resources. Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, is located near The Bahamas, but was only impacted by tropical force strength winds.
Jeff Vahle, the president of Disney Cruise Line stated, “The Bahamas is such a special place to us and our guests, and we have watched the devastation created by Hurricane Dorian with concern and heartache. We stand with the Bahamian people, and especially those in Abaco and Grand Bahama, as they recover from the worst storm to ever make landfall in The Bahamas. As the needs in these communities are assessed, we are prepared to aid the relief and recovery efforts through funding, the provision of supplies and by providing support to our Bahamian Crew Members.”
The Walt Disney Company will continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian, and if needed they will coordinate with nonprofit organizations on emergency response efforts, including communicating information with families before and during emergencies, as well as supplying at-the-ready resources in the event of a disaster.
