A new version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has brought back many familiar faces.
It might be quite some time before a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot ever sees the light of day. Though there have reportedly been a number of attempts to resurrect the iconic television series in recent years, nothing has ever come to fruition.
Maybe this is a good thing, but some fans are eager to see Sunnydale and its beloved inhabitants–of the human and demon variety–return to the small screen.
Recently, Sarah Michelle Gellar expressed a potential desire to reprise her role as Buffy Summers in a reboot or revival. And while there have been talks of a “revamped” version of the show (coming straight from world-famous musician Dolly Parton, who was an uncredited producer on the original series), nothing concrete has been confirmed.

But while we wait for some news, there is a Buffy reimagining fans can sink their teeth into: “ a children’s bedtime story book published in 2018, part of the Pop Classics collection that playfully reimagines beloved franchises.
Illustrated by Kim Smith, this reimagining of the iconic television series features Buffy Summers, Willow Rosenberg, and Xander Harris as eight-year-old versions of themselves in a story told from the point-of-view of the teenage, vampire-slaying version of Buffy.
“The cult classic TV show is now a charming picture book for the youngest fans in the Buffyverse!” the Penguin Random House synopsis reads. “In this new picture-book story brought to life with cute and colorful illustrations, young readers see what the world’s strongest vampire slayer was like back when she was a kid!
Join not-so-brave little Buffy, Willow, and Xander as they investigate strange sounds coming from the closet, seek advice from their school librarian Giles, and encounter everyone’s favorite Buffyverse monsters.”

When Buffy is frightened of noises coming from her closet, she invites her two best friends, Willow and Xander, from Sunnydale Elementary for a sleepover so they can investigate the strange goings-on. Librarian Rupert Giles also makes an appearance, and there’s a few other surprise cameos in store, too, in the form of several well-known villains from the series.
The familiar faces are revealed at the end of the book when Buffy, Willow, and Xander finally brave entering the dark closet. Among the many monsters inside are the “loose-skinned” demon Clement, the “Vengeance demon” D’Hoffryn, the demon Sweet from the musical episode “Once More, With Feeling”, and the Gentleman from the iconic episode “Hush”.
Strangely, though, there aren’t any actual vampires in there! Nevertheless, while these demons are the stuff of nightmares in the hugely popular television series, in this reimagining, they’re as friendly as can be, and are even invited to the kids’ slumber party!
