The Power Rangers franchise has experienced various adaptations and reimaginings over the years, each aiming to capture the spirit of teamwork and heroism that defines the series.
While the 2017 reboot from director Dean Israelite (Chronicle) was intended to start a whole new franchise, an underwhelming box office performance ($142.5 million worldwide against a $100 million budget) led to the series being prematurely canceled, despite the film receiving mostly positive reviews from fans and critics.
Now, reports indicate that Hasbro, the global toy manufacturing and entertainment company, is developing a new Power Rangers reboot, following the cancelation of a planned shared universe with Netflix earlier this year, suggesting a fresh direction for the franchise, which has captivated audiences since its debut with the original television series in 1993.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman (via CBR.com) has reported that the upcoming Power Rangers movie is in early development at Paramount Pictures, marking a departure from the previously intended collaboration with Netflix.
Further insights from scooper @Jinsakuu on X (formerly Twitter) indicate that Hasbro and Paramount have been in negotiations for several months.
The discussions include the possibility of Paramount and its partner, Skydance, acquiring the media rights for Power Rangers, with talks of a complete franchise buyout being entertained if a suitable agreement is reached. Check out @Jinsakuu’s lengthy post below [edited for accuracy and clarity]:
So I talked to my Super Friends and these are are things we’ve heard revolving the new film. Completely new film, nothing to do with Entwisle’s reboot show for Netflix. Hasbro and Paramount have been in negotiations for a few months now and finally made solid progress as of recently..
Expect Paramount/Skydance to retain the media rights for the brand within those meetings there was talks of a buyout but idk how far that went but both parties are open to it and it’ll depend on the right price. But they’ve been developing this film and as of recently and things are moving fast.
It’ll be a theatrical film but they’re aware of the 2017 movie situation so they’re gonna try and be cautious pick the best release date possible before announcing it. (My sources suggest late 2026 since most the heavy hitters will already have come out).
No story details atm on whether or not it’ll be another MMPR reboot but whatever it is, they’re confident enough to spend money on it and development is moving fast, expect next year to be news heavy.

The decision to pivot away from Netflix comes after the streaming giant and Hasbro Entertainment shelved plans for an interconnected film and television franchise reboot.
Announced in June 2022, the Netflix project aimed to introduce a more adult-oriented tone to the series (perhaps similar to the popular fan film), targeting the original audience who have since grown up. However, by June 2024, those plans were officially canceled, prompting Hasbro to seek new avenues for revitalizing the franchise.
As development progresses, Hasbro and Paramount are reportedly considering a release window for the new film, tentatively aiming for late 2026.

Details regarding the storyline of the new reboot remain under wraps. It is also yet to be determined whether the film will revisit the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team (Jason Scott, Zack Taylor, Trini Kwan, Kimberly Hart, Billy Cranston, and Tommy Oliver) or explore another iteration from the franchise’s extensive lore (there are countless comic books and other tie-in media to dip into).
However, rumors suggests the reboot will involve time-traveling to the ’90s so as to include those characters, who would undoubtedly be portrayed by a new set of actors.
