Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming James Bond reboot is officially in development. Denis Villeneuve (the Dune films) is directing, Steven Knight (the creator of Peaky Blinders) is on script duties, and Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) and David Heyman (the Harry Potter films) are on board as producers.
But who is set to take over as 007 after Daniel Craig? It’s a question we’ve been asking since before Craig hung up the tuxedo after his five-film saga, which included Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021).

Daniel Craig Already Replaced as James Bond
2026 has already given us a new version of James Bond with Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin), who took up the mantle in the third-person action-adventure video game 007 First Light. Later this year, Isaac Rouse will play a teenage Bond during his time at Eton in the upcoming audio dramatization SilverFin, which is adapted from Charlie Higson’s first Young Bond novel.
But those Bonds occupy other corners of the franchise — we’re talking about the next 007 in film, who will follow Sean Connery, Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.

Who Is the New 007 in Film?
Several names have been put forward by Bond fans and media outlets, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson (28 Years Later), Idris Elba (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw), Henry Cavill (Man of Steel), Austin Butler (Elvis), and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Brand New Day).
Now, another actor has been name-dropped, as English TV presenter, producer, and novelist Richard Osman shared news of the person who is reportedly being “strongly considered.”
Speaking on his The Rest Is Entertainment podcast (via Metro), Osman said “someone told me for definite who the new Bond is,” revealing Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden as the next 007.
“The name I’ve heard is Jack Lowden,” he said, although he went on to say, “It is definitively not a ‘he’s definitely got it’ thing. He is definitely being strongly considered. I think he’d be amazing.”
Lowden, 36, is also known for his roles in Dunkirk (2017) and the Netflix thriller Calibre (2018).

In response to Inside the Magic’s very own article about Lowden, many Bond fans took to the comments to share their thoughts on this potential casting.
Some comments have been edited for accuracy and clarity.
One fan says of Lowden: “That’s a name I hadn’t considered. Interesting, he might work very well.”
Another says: “I am on board with this pick. I really think he will be an awesome 007!! People were not sold on Daniel Craig and look how he turned out!! THE best 007! I think Jack Lowden will surprise everyone!”
Several others, however, leaned more towards Henry Cavill becoming the next Bond. Fantastic Beasts actor Callum Turner, on the other hand, who’s been mentioned many times as a possible contender in recent months, is seemingly not a favorite, with one writing, “Just not Callum Turner. He’d kill the reboot stone dead.”
As it stands, Amazon MGM Studios has not revealed the next Bond actor. However, recently, Amy Pascal told Deadline that we may learn who the new 007 is by the end of this year.
“I would say the end of the year is a good bet. We are being really, really methodical,” she said, adding that the new iteration of Bond has “got to be something really different that is stirring and exciting and different.”
There’s no release date for the untitled Bond reboot.
