The speculation as to who will be cast as James Bond for the character’s 26th film has been heating up since Daniel Craig hung up his Walther PPK after No Time to Die (2021), his final portrayal of the spy as a mentally burdened, dead-eyed government agent. For years, Craig had made it very clear that he felt constrained by fan expectations and the limitations of the character. At one point, he went so far as to say he would “rather break this glass and slash [his] wrists” than return, which he eventually did. It’s up to Henry Cavill to see if he wants to take on the mantle.

Every time that MGM, which was acquired by Amazon Studios in a legally tricky takeover in 2022 that is currently being investigated by the antitrust arm of the Federal Trade Commission, gears up to select a new James Bond from tens of thousands of actors, it’s a pretty big deal. The question of who will play the next 007 is serious enough that there is an entire cottage industry of bookmakers placing high-stakes bets on actors; currently, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the leading favorite, followed by Taron Egerton, Theo James, James Norton, Leo Woodall, and Jonathan Bailey.

However, for years, there have been two fan-favorite contenders for the role, Idris Elba and Henry Cavill. While Elba was long considered a prime candidate, he has revealed that the racially tinged conversation around the subject “made the whole thing disgusting and off-putting.” That just leaves Henry Cavill to decide whether or not he’d finally like to take on the role of James Bond.

While Henry Cavill has not yet officially portrayed James Bond, he has come close over the years. In the past, he has played 007-adjacent roles like Napoleon Solo in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015), a CIA operative in Mission: Impossible: Fallout (2018), the titular fictional spy in Argylle (2023), and real-life British commando Gus March-Phillipps in the upcoming The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Now, a full trailer featuring Henry Cavill as James Bond and Margot Robbie as a mysterious new character has hit the Internet, and fans are going crazy.

‘James Bond 26’

Several days ago, a new trailer for the 26th James Bond movie was uploaded to YouTube and has already racked up 2.6 million views. That’s not a surprise, considering it features the mega-wattage of Henry Cavill and Margot Robbie as Bond and an unnamed Bond girl.

It should be mentioned that this trailer for an unnamed Henry Cavill James Bond movie is an unauthorized fan-made video, which appears to take footage from movies like The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Margot Robbie’s Focus (2015) to create a simulacrum of a 007 feature. Numerous shots in the trailer also seem to be AI-generated, but, all told, it’s a pretty astonishing look at what a movie like this could be.

Henry Cavill recently spoke about the possibility of portraying the famed Ian Fleming character on The Rich Eisen Show, saying, “I have no idea. All I’ve got to go off is the rumors. The same information you have. Maybe I’m too old now, maybe I’m not. It’s up to [producers] Barbara Broccoli and Mike Wilson, and we’ll see what their plans are.”

It may not be a confirmation, but that’s not a no, either.
