Summer at Walt Disney World is about to look a lot different.

Beginning May 26, Disney will officially kick off its new “Cool Kid Summer” celebration across the resort, and while plenty of attention has gone toward the new entertainment inside the parks, Disney Springs is quietly becoming one of the biggest parts of the entire event.

For families planning summer vacations, that matters more than people may realize.

Disney Springs has always been a popular escape during the hotter months of the year. Some guests use it as a break from the parks. Others build entire vacation days around shopping, restaurants, and entertainment there. But this summer, Disney appears to be turning the district into a full-on family destination with new activities, dance parties, interactive entertainment, and discounted experiences aimed directly at kids.

And honestly, the timing makes perfect sense.

Walt Disney World is heading into one of its busiest summers in years. New offerings are opening all across property. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is preparing for major crowd increases with the debut of Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster featuring the Muppets on May 26. EPCOT is bringing back Soarin’ Across America for a limited run tied to the America 250 celebration. Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also introducing Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! later this summer, while Bluey experiences are expected to draw huge family crowds at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

When you combine all of that with hotel discounts, dining deals, Annual Passholder perks, and the Cool Kid Summer campaign itself, Disney clearly expects families to stay busy from morning until late at night.

That is where Disney Springs enters the picture.

Disney Springs Becoming a Bigger Part of Disney Vacations

For years, Disney Springs mostly functioned as a nighttime destination.

Guests would head there after leaving the parks for dinner reservations, shopping trips, or entertainment like Drawn to Life by Cirque du Soleil. During holiday seasons, it also became known for seasonal offerings and Christmas activities.

This summer, though, Disney Springs is leaning much harder into daytime family entertainment.

According to newly announced details, Disney Springs will host the Disney Springs Kids Club Presented by Coppertone at the Marketplace Splash Pad area.

The offering includes dance parties and entertainment inspired by Polynesian culture, with activities scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays from May 26 through September 8 between 10:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m.

That may sound small on paper, but it actually fills a huge gap for families.

Summer afternoons at Walt Disney World can become exhausting, especially for younger kids. Temperatures regularly climb into the 90s, thunderstorms roll through Central Florida almost daily, and many attractions carry long wait times by midday. Disney Springs suddenly offering more organized entertainment during those hours gives families another option entirely.

Instead of racing from ride to ride all day, guests can slow down for a few hours without feeling like the vacation momentum disappears.

The splash pad area already tends to become crowded during warmer months. Now Disney is building scheduled entertainment around it.

Disney Is Leaning Hard Into Dance Parties This Summer

One thing Disney clearly believes in right now is interactive entertainment.

Rather than only relying on stage shows or traditional meet-and-greets, the company has spent the last couple of years adding more dance parties, roaming entertainment, and participatory experiences.

Cool Kid Summer continues that strategy in a major way.

Disney Springs will also host the “DescenDANCE Party x Camp Rock Jam” at the AdventHealth Waterside Stage on select Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays throughout the summer.

The event ties into upcoming Disney Channel projects, including Descendants: Wicked Wonderland and Camp Rock 3(2026), both arriving later this year.

For Disney, this is smart for several reasons.

First, it keeps Disney Channel brands relevant inside the parks and resorts. Second, it creates nighttime entertainment that specifically targets families with younger children and teenagers. Third, it gives Disney Springs more energy after sunset during summer travel season.

That area around the Waterside Stage already becomes packed during concerts and performances. Adding recognizable Disney Channel music and themed dance experiences could turn it into one of the more popular evening offerings outside the parks.

It also fits perfectly with Disney’s current approach to family entertainment.

The company has increasingly shifted toward experiences where guests become part of the action instead of simply watching something happen from the audience.

Disney Springs Adds More Interactive Family Activities

The new entertainment additions are not the only things Disney is bringing to Disney Springs this summer.

Families will also be able to participate in Mickey and Minnie Cookie Art experiences at Amorette’s Patisserie.

Each kit includes themed cookies, paint brushes, edible watercolor paints, and water activation components so kids can decorate the treats themselves.

Again, this may seem like a relatively simple addition, but it plays directly into what Disney vacations have become for many families.

Parents are constantly looking for experiences that break up long days while still feeling immersive and memorable. Not every child wants to sprint between thrill rides from rope drop until fireworks.

Some families simply want moments where kids can relax, play, and interact with something creative.

Disney Springs is becoming much more useful for that audience.

The shopping district is also bringing back one of Disney’s more underrated seasonal traditions: letter-writing for Santa at Disney’s Days to Christmas.

Even though Christmas still feels far away in May, Disney understands something important about its audience. Families visiting during summer often begin planning holiday trips and seasonal vacations months ahead of time. Small experiences like this keep Disney’s year-round vacation cycle moving.

Drawn to Life Could See Increased Demand This Summer

Another major addition tied to Cool Kid Summer involves Cirque du Soleil’s Drawn to Life.

Disney confirmed discounted kids tickets for the show this summer.

That could become a bigger deal than people expect.

Drawn to Life has developed a strong following since opening at Disney Springs, but summer crowds may push interest even higher thanks to these family-focused discounts. Parents already looking for indoor entertainment during Florida’s hottest months could easily see the show as an attractive break from long outdoor park days.

And honestly, Disney probably wants that.

Indoor entertainment becomes incredibly valuable during summer operations. Attractions go down temporarily because of weather. Heat indexes climb quickly. Families start searching for air conditioning by midafternoon.

Disney Springs suddenly offering more entertainment options gives guests another reason to stay on property instead of leaving Walt Disney World entirely during downtime.

Disney World’s Summer Crowds Could Be Massive

The bigger story here may actually be what all of this says about Disney’s expectations for summer attendance.

Disney does not usually expand entertainment offerings this aggressively unless it expects heavy crowds.

Cool Kid Summer officially launches May 26, which happens to line up with several major additions and changes across Walt Disney World. Families arriving for Memorial Day week and early summer vacations are walking into one of the busiest entertainment calendars Disney has had in quite some time.

That matters because Disney Springs often absorbs overflow traffic from the parks.

Guests who cannot secure Lightning Lane selections they want, families avoiding afternoon heat, or visitors looking for evening entertainment without park tickets all naturally drift toward Disney Springs.

This summer, Disney appears ready for that.

Instead of allowing Disney Springs to simply function as a shopping and dining district, the company is transforming it into a legitimate entertainment extension of the parks themselves.

And for families visiting this summer, that may end up being one of the smartest additions Disney has made all year.
