The countdown to one of the most anticipated attraction debuts Disney’s Hollywood Studios has seen in years is now measured in days rather than weeks, and for Annual Passholders who have been planning their approach to the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets preview window, the My Disney Experience app just became significantly more important. The virtual queue for the Passholder previews is now showing up in the app, which means the system is in place, the entry points are visible, and the preparation that will determine whether you ride during the preview period or wait until opening day on May 26 can begin in earnest.

The demand surrounding this attraction before it has even opened to a single paying guest is worth understanding in full context, because it has already produced something unexpected. Two of the three Passholder preview dates, May 21 and May 22, had their Disney’s Hollywood Studios park reservations sell out almost immediately after previews were announced. May 22 carried extra pressure because it also marked the launch of the new Mandalorian and Grogu mission for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, which alone would have driven significant reservation demand. But May 21 followed close behind, leaving May 23 as the only preview date still showing Hollywood Studios reservations at the time of the initial sellout. Those reservations have since become available again, so the situation is fluid and worth checking regularly in the days ahead.

The intensity of that reservation rush is itself a statement about where the Muppets brand stands at Walt Disney World right now. For years, Disney fans worried the company was quietly moving away from the Muppets in the parks, a concern that grew louder after the closure of MuppetVision 3D. The demand surrounding these preview dates suggests something very different is happening. The Electric Mayhem is generating the kind of excitement that Aerosmith fans are presumably not feeling about the change, but that a very large number of Disney guests apparently are.

How the Virtual Queue Actually Works

The Passholder preview virtual queue operates across three distinct windows on each preview day, May 21, 22, and 23, and the access level you have determines which window you can enter.

The first window opens at 7 a.m. on each preview day. Passholders with a park reservation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios can join the virtual queue at 7 a.m. This is the earliest access available and the most advantageous entry point. Critically, you do not need to have physically entered a theme park to join the virtual queue at 7 a.m. You can be at home, in your hotel room, or in the parking lot when the window opens.

The second window opens at 11 a.m. and significantly expands eligibility. At 11 a.m., Passholders with a reservation to any Walt Disney World theme park, not just Hollywood Studios, can request to join the virtual queue. This creates a path for Passholders who were unable to secure a Hollywood Studios reservation but have a reservation elsewhere at the resort. Park hopping later in the day is a viable strategy here, with some Passholders reserving another park in the morning before heading to Hollywood Studios.

The third window opens at 3 p.m. and is the most broadly accessible. At 3 p.m., the virtual queue opens to all Annual Passholders, regardless of whether they have any park reservations. This is the fallback option for Passholders who could not secure a reservation anywhere and still want a chance at the attraction during the preview period.

Given the demand already demonstrated by the reservation sellouts, all three virtual queue windows will likely fill extremely quickly. The 7 a.m. window is the one to prioritize if you have a Hollywood Studios reservation. The 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. windows are real opportunities but should be treated as competitive rather than reliable.

During the preview period, Passholders who ride will also receive a complimentary download of their on-ride photo, a benefit that does not carry over to the general opening on May 26 or beyond.

What the Disney World Attraction Actually Is

For guests who have been following the reimagining of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster since the Aerosmith version closed earlier this year, the new attraction maintains the foundational elements that made the original a Hollywood Studios cornerstone for more than two decades. The ride still takes place at G-Force Records, now owned of Scooter’s uncle, J.P. Grosse, and the core premise of a band that is late for a concert and needs to get across town at high speed remains the structural logic of the experience.

The difference is that the band is now The Electric Mayhem, featuring Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd, Janice, Zoot, and Lips. Disney has released the full track list for the attraction, featuring rock covers performed by The Electric Mayhem. The queue features Muppet props, Electric Mayhem band posters, and celebrity cameos woven throughout the pre-show. The launch sequence, inversions, and physical intensity of the ride remain intact.

A virtual queue is not planned for when the attraction officially opens to the general public on May 26. Whatever the preview period demand looks like, the general opening will operate on a standby and Lightning Lane model, and given the preview enthusiasm, Lightning Lane availability during opening week is likely to be competitive from the moment the park opens each day.

For Passholders who have their dates, their strategy, and their app ready, the virtual queue is live. May 21 is three days away. The 7 a.m. window will determine a lot.
