The countdown to the opening of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been building since the moment the Aerosmith version closed permanently earlier this year, and the anticipation within the Disney fan community for the reimagined attraction has been running at a level that reflects how significant a transformation this represents for one of Hollywood Studios’ most iconic thrill experiences. The new version of the ride keeps the G-Force Records setting, the high-speed launch, and the signature inversions that made Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster a cornerstone of the Hollywood Studios lineup for decades, while wrapping all of it in the chaotic, hilarious, and genuinely beloved world of The Muppets and their house band, The Electric Mayhem.

The ride opens to the general public on May 26, which is just three weeks away, but Annual Passholders are getting something the general public is not. Walt Disney World has officially announced exclusive Passholder preview dates for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, giving the resort’s most dedicated guests first access to the reimagined attraction across three days before opening day arrives. The preview structure this time is different from what Passholder previews have typically looked like, and understanding how it works before May 21 arrives will make a meaningful difference in whether you get on the ride during the preview window or spend those days watching other people post their reactions online.

The Muppets Preview Dates and How the Virtual Queue Works

Annual Passholder previews for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets will take place on May 21, 22, and 23. The access system for these previews uses a virtual queue rather than a standard standby or walk-up line, and the opening times are tiered based on your park reservation status on the day of the preview.

The earliest access opens at 7 a.m. on each preview day for Passholders with a park reservation for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. If you have a Hollywood Studios reservation on any of the three preview dates you can join the virtual queue at 7 a.m. before almost everyone else. At 11 a.m., the virtual queue opens to Passholders with a park reservation for any Walt Disney World theme park, not just Hollywood Studios, significantly expanding the eligible pool. Then, at 3 p.m., the virtual queue opens to all Passholders, regardless of whether they have a park reservation. Critically, Disney has confirmed that you do not need to have physically entered a theme park to join the virtual queue, which means you can request your spot from home or from wherever you happen to be at the relevant time on the day of the preview.

A virtual queue is not planned for when the attraction officially opens on May 26, meaning the preview window is genuinely distinct from the opening-day experience. Getting through the virtual queue during the preview period will likely be more manageable than navigating whatever the general opening day demand looks like for one of the most anticipated attraction debuts Hollywood Studios has seen in years.

The Free Photo Download

During the preview period, Passholders who ride Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets will receive a complimentary download of their on-ride photo. That perk does not carry over to the general opening on May 26 or beyond, making it an exclusive benefit tied specifically to the May 21 through 23 preview window. The on-ride photo for a ride that launches at high speed into darkness with the full Muppets theming surrounding you is the kind of image worth having, and getting it free during the preview period is a meaningful bonus on top of the early access itself.

What The Muppets Ride Actually Is

For anyone who has been following the transformation of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster since the Aerosmith version closed, the new attraction maintains the core elements that made the original work while building a completely new thematic world around them. The ride still takes place at G-Force Records, now under the ownership of Scooter’s uncle J.P. Grosse, and the basic storyline of a band that is late for a concert and needs to get across town at high speed remains intact. The difference is that the band in question is now The Electric Mayhem, featuring Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd, Janice, Zoot, and Lips, performing rock covers, with Disney confirming the complete tracklist for the attraction.

The queue features Muppet props spanning the franchise’s history, Electric Mayhem band posters, and celebrity cameos woven throughout the pre-show. The ride itself launches with the same force, runs through the same inversions, and delivers the same physical experience that Hollywood Studios guests have been riding since 1999, wrapped in a visual and audio world that is entirely new.

Why Getting In During Previews Matters

The opening of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets on May 26 is going to generate the kind of demand that major Hollywood Studios attraction debuts consistently produce, with Lightning Lane availability filling quickly and standby times running high for weeks following the general opening. The three-day Passholder preview window from May 21 through 23 offers a version of the experience that will be harder to replicate once the full operating day crowds arrive on and after May 26.

The tiered virtual queue structure rewards Passholders who have a Hollywood Studios reservation on a preview date, making those three days worth prioritizing if you can secure a reservation and have the flexibility to be at the park. If you cannot get a Hollywood Studios reservation for any of the preview dates, the 3 p.m. universal virtual queue opening on each day still gives you a path to the attraction before opening day.
