To even suggest that there might one day be a sequel to The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992), the adaption of Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella, would upset many fans. After all, the Christmas classic is beloved by many, and for over 30 years has remained untampered with.

But seeing as Disney has already given us sequels to several ’90s classics, whether in the form of a film or a TV show on Disney+, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

In 2021, Home Sweet Home Alone landed on Disney+, and in 2022, the long-awaited Hocus Pocus 2 was conjured up. That same year also gave us The Santa Clauses (2022), the follow-up to The Santa Clause trilogy, and Disenchanted (2022), the sequel to Enchanted (2007).

It’s this that has us wondering whether Disney is planning a sequel to The Muppet Christmas Carol.

But, you’ll be glad to know that there’s nothing in the works — as far as we know. And though it’s very unlikely the beloved film will get a sequel of any kind, these days, all bets are off where such projects are concerned. If there’s money to be made, Disney will be there.

For now, you can enjoy the original version of the film, the “extended cut” (which is also available on Disney+), or the live on-stage version, which is returning to UK venues this Christmas. There’s also a wonderful picture book version of the film.
