Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) is fast approaching. While July 2025 seems like a lifetime away, soon enough, InGen’s genetically engineered dinosaurs will be stomping through movie theaters all over again and taking huge bites out of the box office.

Collectively, the six previous Jurassic films have grossed over $6 billion worldwide. The latest sequel, Jurassic World Dominion (2022), which grossed over $1 billion at the global box office, marked the end of the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World eras by uniting both trilogies’ character ensembles for one last adventure “65 million years in the making”.

Rebirth marks the dawn of “a new Jurassic era” while retaining the Jurassic World banner.

The film stars Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame), Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Mahershala Ali (The Green Book), Luna Blaise (Manifest), David Iacono (Dead Boy Detectives), Audrina Miranda (Lopez vs Lopez), Philippine Velge (Station Eleven), Bechir Sylvain (BMF), and Ed Skrein (Deadpool).

None of the actors from the previous films are expected to return.

Until recently, little was known about the new sequel beside its main cast and the creatives involved (director Gareth Edwards and screenwriter David Koepp), however, Universal Pictures has now released two stills from the film, the official logo, and the synopsis.

Though lengthy and convoluted, the blurb contains some eyebrow-raising details about the direction Jurassic World Rebirth might take.

“This action-packed new chapter sees an intrepid team racing to secure DNA samples from the three most colossal creatures across land, sea, and air,” the synopsis reads. “Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived.”

It continues, “The three most colossal creatures within that tropical biosphere hold the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind. Academy Award® nominee [Scarlett] Johansson plays skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top-secret mission to secure genetical material from the world’s three most massive dinosaurs.”

“When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on an island where they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.”

One of the most surprising aspects of the synopsis is that it’s the first entry in the series to take place in the future, as each of the first six movies takes place in their respective year of release. However, as the synopsis states, Jurassic World Rebirth is set “five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion“, which was released in 2022. This places Rebirth in 2027 — one year after its theatrical release.

But perhaps the most intriguing part of the synopsis is the “sinister, shocking discovery that’s been hidden from the world for decades.” What is this big revelation, exactly?

We previously speculated that it could be the franchise’s first “natural dinosaurs.” As very unlikely as it might seem, this would completely upend the entire series as it would mean that InGen didn’t create dinosaurs, but only cloned existing ones they found in some remote region where they have somehow survived for tens of millions of years.

Or, is it possible that this “shocking” revelation is that InGen has actually been time-travelling into the past to bring dinosaurs back to the modern day? In other words, is everything we’ve been told about how they’ve managed to genetically engineer extinct dinosaurs one big lie?

This sounds extremely far-fetched, we’ll agree, but at seven films into any franchise, you have to wonder what new twists and turns it might have in store.
