The status of Fast & Furious-Supercharged continues to hang in the balance, with the notorious attraction closing for refurbishment back on August 19. This closure comes as the Universal Orlando Resort prepares for its annual Halloween Horror Nights event, which will see several areas of the parks transform into terrifying exhibits, mazes, and haunts.

Located in Universal Studios Florida, one of Universal’s two Orlando theme parks, Fast & Furious—Supercharged is an often-loathed attraction, with many guests voicing their concerns and complaints regarding the ride.

Supercharged’s queue will be used during Universal’s Halloween event, though the ride is expected to undergo general maintenance during its closure as well.

However, it’s been theorized that fans may never see Fast & Furious-Supercharged again, with rumors claiming the controversial attraction has actually been shut down permanently.

Similar to complaints about Universal’s Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon, fans have rallied against Supercharged’s reliance on screens and projections, criticizing the attraction for its lackluster theming, story, and overall fun factor.

For a ride based on the world-renowned Fast and the Furious franchise, Supercharged is remarkably slow, placing guests on a tour bus rather than a high-speed, exotic sports car adventure.

In the past, fans have called the attraction “boring” and “cheap,” with many hoping Supercharged would receive a complete overhaul. The ride’s closure has essentially been rumored since it opened, with more and more fans turning on Supercharged over the last several years. The ride has an average rating of 1.9 stars on Google and is rarely, if ever, crowded.

However, it’s not just the fans who despise the ride, with Universal Creative Senior Vice President and CCO Thierry Coup stating that his decision to approve Supercharged in Florida was “the biggest mistake of [his] career” back in 2021.

Despite this controversy, Universal intends to stick with the ‘Fast’ franchise for the foreseeable future. The theme park company is currently constructing a brand-new attraction that will likely address the complaints levied against Supercharged.

This new ride, Fast & Furious Hollywood Drift, is a roller coaster, taking guests on the high-speed adventure fans had hoped to see from a ride based on the NOS-fueled series of films.

Not much information is known about the upcoming Fast and the Furious attraction, but initial work on the new coaster began in 2023.
