There might be four Jurassic sequels in development, but only Jurassic World 4 has what it takes to change the entire franchise.
With a scheduled release date of July 2, 2025, Jurassic World 4 (2025) is now just under a year away. Production is ramping up and filming is currently taking place on location in beautiful Thailand, with the crew soon set to head to Malta and the UK for studio shoots.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) director Gareth Edwards is at the helm, and Jurassic Park (1993) and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) scribe David Koepp penning the script, which the lead star Scarlett Johansson (the Marvel movies) describes as “incredible.”
Other stars include Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Luna Blaise (Manifest), David Iacono (Dead Boy Detectives), Audrina Miranda (Lopez vs Lopez), and Mahershala Ali (The Green Book).

Besides the cast and crew, Jurassic World 4 remains under lock and key. In fact, we don’t even know how it fits in with the previous six films yet. Presumably, it follows on from the latest sequel, Jurassic World Dominion (2022), but this hasn’t been confirmed either way.
However, an alleged plot leak for the film suggests that it takes place before the events seen at the end of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018).
So, as is the case leading up to the release of any major film, there are many clues dotted about online. And all it takes is one’s inner-paleontologist to assemble some of those clues to try and work out what the final product will look like — or at least its, ahem, bare bones.
While plot details remain undisclosed, rumors point towards “human-dino hybrids” and an intriguing title: Jurassic City. At first glance, it sounds corny; like something you’d see on the Syfy channel (in fact, there is such a movie called Jurassic City). But not so fast.

It’s easy to assume that, if this title turns out to be true, Jurassic World 4 will likely take place in some abandoned city, or one that’s in mid-evacuation, where dinosaurs — which, as we know, are now roaming around the planet, as seen in Dominion — are causing problems.
However, a recent set photo shared by @reelnewshawaii on X (Twitter) suggests otherwise. The set — built at Huay To Waterfall within the Khao Phanom Bencha National Park in Krabi for the purpose of the film — is an ancient temple. Or, an ancient city. Check it out below:
[Edited for clarity] A better look at the Jurassic World 4 (SAGA) set being built at Huay To Waterfall in Krabi, Thailand. Looks like some sort of ancient ruin entrance which leads to a view of the falls. Filming to take place this location June 20-24.

Since then, we’ve had some confirmation around the premise. Though a very loose description, per Variety, Jurassic World 4 will be “a completely fresh take launching a new Jurassic era, following three adults and three teens getting stuck on the island.”
So, we know that the new film will, like five-and-a-half of its predecessors (Jurassic Park through Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), take place on a jungle island. This time, however, Thailand is doubling for whatever island that is, as opposed to Hawaii, which served the first five films in the long-running Jurassic franchise.
We also know that ancient ruins will be involved somehow. Whatever the plot is, this will be an entirely new aesthetic for the Jurassic Park/Jurassic World franchise — assuming, of course, that the set piece in question doesn’t make up a fleeting part of the new film.

However, while the Jurassic films are strangers to ancient ruins and cities — state-of-the-art, man-made facilities serve as the flagpole for their settings — the PC game “Jurassic Park: Trespasser” (1998) features the remnants of a lost civilization on Isla Sora, AKA Site B.
Have the filmmakers behind Jurassic World 4 looked beyond the films for inspiration? We’ll just have to wait and see, but either way, it looks like it’s gearing up to reboot the franchise from an aesthetic point of view. And, looking at director Gareth Edwards’ previous works, such as Monsters (2010), Godzilla (2014), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), and The Creator (2023), perhaps visually and tonally, too.
Jurassic World 4 will be released in theaters on July 2, 2025.
