The last home ever purchased by actor Matthew Perry–a home in the Hollywood Hills–was listed for sale months ago, and it remains on the market, despite interest in the late star, the circumstances surrounding his death, and the fact that the home was only purchased a few months before Perry’s death in October 2023.

The Tragic Death of a Beloved Star
Actor Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit NBC sitcom Friends was found dead in the hot tub of his Pacific Palisades home on October 28, 2023.

Though paramedics arrived, they were unable to resuscitate Perry. He was just 54 years old.
An autopsy was performed to determine the cause of Perry’s death, and the results were not returned until mid-December when it was discovered that Perry had died from the “acute effects of ketamine,” a powerful drug used to treat depression and anxiety.
Other contributing factors were drowning and coronary artery disease.
Questions Lead to a Criminal Investigation
It was known that Perry had been receiving ketamine injection therapy prescribed by his physician. However, the autopsy report noted that Perry’s ketamine levels were higher than expected, especially considering that his last treatment was administered more than a week before his death.

In May 2024, authorities announced that a criminal investigation was underway to determine how Perry came into possession of the fatal dose of ketamine.
As part of the investigation, Brooke Mueller, ex-wife of actor Charlie Sheen, has been questioned, and she has since retained the services of a criminal defense attorney. But investigators say that multiple people may be responsible for Perry’s death. Last week, a second celebrity was identified as playing a potential role in Perry’s death, though the star’s identity has yet to be released.
Perry’s Home Remains on the Market
As the criminal investigation continues, one of Matthew Perry’s homes remains on the market.
Located at 1479 Rising Glen Road in Los Angeles, the home was purchased by Perry just months before he died. The 2,566-square-foot home sits on a nearly 10,000-square-foot lot and has three bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The home is listed at $5,195,000. Perry purchased the home on May 31, 2023, for a reported $4,995,000.
The listing on Zillow reads as follows:
Welcome to this sleek mid-century treasure on coveted Rising Glen in the hills above the Sunset Strip. This beautiful architectural property boasts a classic look with walls of glass wrapping around a sun-filled central patio with a beautiful swimming pool and fire-pit.
Gorgeously renovated, the thoughtful updates provide an ambiance of elevated luxury while embracing the original architectural aesthetic.
The home features hardwood floors throughout and gorgeous stone finishes in the baths. The expansive living area has a double-sided fireplace to the dining room and the updated kitchen has an informal dining area and a laundry room. The property, originally three bedrooms, is currently used as a two bedroom with a very chic screening room.
The primary bedroom has walk in closet, stunning bath with separate shower and tub, and opens directly to the pool area. This beautiful oasis boasting sex appeal and sophistication is remarkably private and serene yet situated moments from the best of Sunset Strip and Beverly Hills.

Visitors to the home can enter the abode via private gates. The pathway leads to a large driveway, as well as a two-car garage. Outside on the patio, the south-facing deck is the place to be to soak up the sun, and in the evenings, a fire pit can be used to stave off the chill of the nighttime air.

Matthew Perry’s Real Estate Endeavors
Matthew Perry first entered the world of real estate in 1994, just after Friends debuted on NBC. It was then that he purchased a two-bedroom mansion in the Hollywood Hills. Five years later, however, Perry had already upgraded to a much larger Beverly Hills mansion that spanned some 6,500 square feet.
Six years later, in 2005, Perry expanded his real estate portfolio, purchasing a two-bedroom condo on the Sunset Strip. The home had previously been owned by music legend Elton John. But Perry didn’t stop there. In 2006, he purchased a 4,100-square-foot mansion—also on the Sunset Strip. He sold the second mansion in 2014.

Perry also owned a three-bedroom home on Carman Crest Drive, which he purchased in 2008, and in 2011, he bought a “glass-walled” Hollywood Hills abode. Later that year, Perry purchased a $12 million Malibu home right on the beach before moving to a luxury high-rise in 2017. He referred to the high-rise as his “mansion in the sky.”
But Perry didn’t want to be remembered for the homes he owned–or for the roles he played on television.
More Than ‘Friends’
Though Matthew Perry enjoyed great success in his role as Chandler Bing on NBC’s Friends, the late actor had hoped that his legacy wouldn’t end at that. In fact, he hoped that his legacy wouldn’t even begin with his role on the Emmy Award-winning sitcom.

Perry wanted to be remembered for the strides he took in advocacy related to substance misuse issues. It was so important to him, in fact, that he unashamedly committed himself to using his fame and influence to help others who faced similar struggles with alcohol addiction and substance abuse.
“The best thing about me, bar none, is if somebody comes up to me and says, ‘I can’t stop drinking. Can you help me?’ I can say yes and follow up and do it,” Perry explained in an interview in 2022 with Q‘s Tom Power.
The Friends star continued, saying that his personal victories against his addictions carried as much importance to him as any of his professional successes.

“I’ve said this for a long time: when I die, I don’t want Friends to be the first thing that’s mentioned — I want that to be the first thing that’s mentioned, and I’m going to live the rest of my life proving that.”
