Bluey has 154 episodes, a stage play, a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade balloon, and even a place at Alton Towers; what more could a blue cartoon dog want? Perhaps a feature film from Disney+ could sweeten the pot?

As Bluey, Bingo, and the rest of their canine crew transform everyday life into extraordinary fun throughout three (hopefully four) seasons, rumors of a film adaptation started circulating when Bluey creator Joe Brumm admitted wanting to expand the show’s format. While that most likely means full 30-minute episodes, a movie wouldn’t be far behind.

Although no official announcements have been made, the show might have already shown viewers a sneak peek as far back as season one. Content creator and Bluey influencer Aussie Girl Margie shares the evidence in her video below.

The First Hint of “The Bluey Movie”

Dreadful coma theories aside, the creator goes into great detail about how the episode “The Adventure” sets the viewers up for what a film version of the beloved show might look like in the future. It’s very subtle, but Aussie Girl Margie points it out to the viewers in real time as the show changes its aspect ratio from the television standard to 2x35x1 to sell that cinematic effect.

Additionally, there’s also a small but noticeable change in the episode’s animation style. A look at the comparison shot between scenes in the video above between “The Adventure” and “Army” shows that the former has more saturated colors and distinct use of shadow to lend Bluey and Chloe’s fantasy a more epic feel.

While the episode in question maintains Bluey’s standard short formula, it uses its cinematic elements in such a creative way that viewers (this writer included) can’t help but wonder what would happen if Ludo Studio went all the way. More importantly, what could they do with a Disney-sized budget?

Could They Do It?

At the time of writing, Disney only has the distribution rights to keep the show on Disney+ and Disney Junior. However, if Joe Brumm is serious about wanting to expand the series, a movie might be next on the agenda, and Disney could be waiting in the wings to entice the show’s creative team.

Bluey already has an adorable style and distinct visual all its own, and the idea of changing that might rub some viewers the wrong way. However, Disney could offer more resources to improve the project for a wide cinematic release.

This discussion is all pure speculation, of course, but the idea of a Bluey movie is undoubtedly on the table. Given what we know about the show’s growing popularity, expanding audience, and place in pop culture, it is truthfully only a matter of time before Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, and Chilli all make their big screen debuts.
