Marvel Studios is hoping that audiences will come out to theaters this summer for Deadpool & Wolverine, but there could be a reason for them to tune back into Disney+ in the future. One of the stars of Loki, the critically acclaimed Marvel Cinematic Universe show featuring the God of Mischief, is ready to return.

‘Loki’ and His “Glorious Purpose”

Loki was one of the first original Marvel series to stream on Disney+, following Wandavision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and helping to establish the tone and visuals of MCU TV. More importantly, along with Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), it kicked off the Multiverse Saga that Kevin Feige has planned for the franchise’s future.

Loki season 1 saw the titular Norse god (Tom Hiddleston) captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) after the time-traveling events of Avengers: Endgame (2019) resulted in the 2012 version of the character getting his hands on an Infinity Stone and messing up the Sacred Timeline good and proper.

Alongside TVA Agent Mobius (Owen Wilson), Loki is tasked with hunting down Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), a Variant of himself, and eventually begins to unravel the secrets of the Multiverse itself.

The series also introduced He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors), a Variant of Kang the Conqueror, the intended primary villain of the Multiverse Saga. Season 2 of the show featured Majors more heavily as both He Who Remains and a Variant named Victor Timely; at the same time, real-world legal difficulties saw the actor fired by Marvel Studios and later convicted of reckless assault in the 3rd degree and harassment.

Loki season 2 also followed Tom Hiddleston abandoning his role as the God of Mischief in favor of becoming the God of Stories and holding together the entire Multiverse through sheer strength of will. The finale saw Loki finally finding his “glorious purpose,” but left a door open for season 3 of the series.

Tom Hiddleston has played coy about whether or not he will return to the MCU, but one of his co-stars is ready to leap back into the fray.

“Fingers Crossed That We Get To See More of Him”

Loki season 2 introduced an immediate fan-favorite character in Ouroboros, a TVA Repairs and Advancement Department technician played by Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan. Unlike most other TVA staff, Ouroboros was portrayed as cheerful, helpful, and just happy to be there while still having worked in isolation for an apparently infinite amount of time to help maintain the safety of the Multiverse.

In a recent Collider interview, Ke Huy Quan revealed that interesting tidbit that his performance as Ouroboros was heavily influenced by his previous portrayal of teen inventor Data in the cult family adventure film The Goonies (1985). He said:

“[W]hen I read the script, I fell in love with the character right away, but I didn’t quite know how to play him. I had meetings with our writers, with our showrunner, with Tom Hiddleston, and I was trying to pick their brains to see what their vision was for this character. They were very supportive, and they offered a lot of suggestions and advice. I felt this tremendous pressure because I didn’t want to disappoint the fans. I struggled for a long time, and it was not until I went and saw the Ouroboros set and the stage that they were building the set in. It was called Roger Moore, and as you know, Roger Moore played James Bond, and Data from The Goonies loves James Bond, and it dawned on me that O.B. could be a variant of Data from The Goonies.”

Even more interestingly for fans of both Loki and The Goonies, Ke Huy Quan confirmed that he would return as Ouroboros in future installments of the MCU. He continued:

“In terms of Ouroboros, man, fingers crossed that we get to see more of him in either an MCU movie or, hopefully, more in the TVA. It’s such a vast universe. We only get to see a little bit of the TVA, so hopefully, we’ll get to see more of that. Also, Ouroboros has so much knowledge, so I would love to see more of him and more of his contributions to that universe.”

It is unclear whether Marvel Studios currently plans to produce Loki season 3, with producer Kevin Wright saying.

“We certainly did not develop this season going, ‘We have to tee up season 3,’ in the way that we did with season 1, where there was a very specific, ‘Hey, we’re coming back.’ But I also think that where this show goes, there certainly can be many, many, many more stories told with Loki in the Loki world and in other worlds connected to Loki, the character.”

But that certainly leaves the door open for Ke Huy Quan to return, and he has confirmed he is up for it. Where else in the Multiverse will we see Ouroboros next?
