Deadpool & Wolverine is the great red-and-black hope of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a huge part of its marketing is the promise of a whole bunch of fancy cameos. Now, a new trailer has given us what we’ve all been waiting for: Lady Deadpool.

Marvel Studios has been on a bit of a downward spiral for the last five years, after Avengers: Endgame (2019) brought a climactic end to the Infinity Saga and simultaneously removed Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson from the MCU. Since then, the franchise has faced dwindling box office grosses, scathing critical reviews, and whatever Secret Invasion thought it was doing.

Fortunately, Kevin Feige and the Marvel Studios creatives have a plan: X-Men, X-Men, X-Men.

The MCU has been clearly building up to the introduction of comics’ premiere team of misunderstood mutants for quite some time, giving audiences teases like the revelation of Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and her X-gene, She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) going meta to ask K.E.V.I.N. when they’re coming into the story and a few cameos like Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) and Dr. Hank McCoy (Kelsey Grammer) in The Marvels (2023).

This summer, Hugh Jackman will return as Logan alongside Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson in Deadpool & Wolverine, the first appearance of an X-Men icon without a graduate degree in the MCU. The much-anticipated film has been hyped up with everything from beer ads to Reynold’s passive-aggressive negging of Marvel Studios.

One appeal of Deadpool & Wolverine is the inclusion of multiple stars from previous Fox X-Men films, many of whom appear to be in the thrall of primary villain Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) and to have been dragged from multiple different timelines of the Multiverse. Another is the promise of multiple Variants of the Merc with the Mouth himself, including Dogpool and, as it has been heavily rumored, Lady Deadpool.

In Marvel Comics continuity, Lady Deadpool is a female Variant of Wade Wilson, normally residing on Earth-3010. It is unknown whether the MCU Lady Deadpool will share her male counterpart’s tragic origin story, but many fans have been speculating that the character will be played by either Ryan Reynolds’ real-life wife, Blake Lively, or her close friend, Taylor Swift.

Of course, Taylor Swift may be playing an entirely different character in Deadpool & Wolverine or not be in it at all, and Blake Lively is as liable to show up as herself in a fourth-wall-breaking appearance, but who’s to say? At least, this new TV trailer for the upcoming film gives a strong, if brief, indication that Lady Deadpool will appear, at least from the waist down:

Given that we only see a pair of feminine legs in a Deadpool-styled costume, it could be Blake Lively, Taylor Swift, or, we’re calling it here, Ryan Reynolds with his face deep-faked onto a woman’s body. The sparks around the figure’s feet indicate that she has likely just walked out of a mystical transportation portal, so we’ll just have to wait and see what universe Lady Deadpool has come from.

Do you think that’s actually Lady Deadpool or just another Ryan Reynolds marketing trick? Tell us your theory in the comments below!

Deadpool & Wolverine is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 26. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Matthew Macfadyen as TVA agent Paradox, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, Brianna Hildebrand, Aaron Stanford, and Jennifer Garner.
