Disney is gearing up to debut a brand-new live show featuring The Aristocats (1970) and other beloved characters. Ready for a new adventure?

The Walt Disney Company has undoubtedly become one of the most important entertainment companies worldwide, owning Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Studios, in addition to Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Studios.

With the company heavily leaning into its newest and most popular intellectual properties to develop new projects at the Disney Parks, like James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, many beloved stories are overlooked.

Fortunately, Disney has announced a brand-new live show featuring characters from some of the most unnoticed Disney movies.

Disney recently announced the grand debut of its brand-new live stage show, The Adventure of Rhythm, which will be presented at the Storyhouse Stage in Adventure Isle at Shanghai Disneyland.

According to a press release, the musical is scheduled to perform from June 3 through October 2024 (except for special events). Thanks to its one-of-a-kind construction, it promises a unique experience for all guests each time they see it.

Per Disney, “The Adventure of Rhythm tells an original story of a team of archeologists who specialize in researching music, including instruments from cultures around the world, and who are thrilled to be in Adventure Isle to share their stories and rhythms from their travels with the adventurers in the audience.”

The live show will feature an original musical number performed by the company of explorer dancers and live drummers, transporting guests to the magical stories of new and classic Disney movies around the world.

The Adventure of Rhythm ties together five musical styles—regional, big band, hip hop, Latin jazz, and pop music—to bring memorable musical moments from Disney movies like The Aristocats, The Lion King (1998), Aladdin (1992), Wreck-It Ralph (2012), Moana (2016), Mulan (1998), Pinocchio (1940), and Pixar’s Turning Red (2022) to life.

Disney says, “What makes the show even more special is that guests may have the opportunity to see different versions of the show when each of the five music styles takes them on one of two adventures.”

“Each adventure offers a different lineup of characters, providing guests with new surprises when watching this dazzling show,” the company adds.

Depending on the “path” the musical extravaganza takes, guests can enjoy heartwarming moments with characters rarely seen at the parks, including Marie from The Aristocats, Genie, and Aladdin.

The Adventure of Rhythm will undoubtedly become a wonderful addition to Shanghai Disney Resort’s offerings this summer, expanding guests’ experiences during peak season.

As with all other live entertainment at Disney Parks, performances of The Adventure of Rhythm may be modified, suspended, or canceled due to unforeseen conditions.

While Disney seems to be taking some of its most beloved yet underrated movies into account to exploit their potential, we have seen several cases of avid fans taking the responsibility of turning popular Disney movies into exciting new projects.

Earlier this year, Inside the Magic reported on a live-action remake of Walt Disney Animation’s 2000 movie The Emperor’s New Groove with costumes and characters pulled straight out of the iconic movie.

Additionally, a group of creators is currently developing a live-action adaptation of the 2001 movie Atlantis: The Lost Empire, turning the famous story into a 10-episode mini-series.

Last year, Disneyland Paris debuted an original live-stage musical featuring some of Pixar Animation Studios’ most popular stories, including Monsters Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), and the Toy Story franchise.

Unfortunately, original shows like these are nowhere to be seen at Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World Resort, despite the multi-million-dollar projects planned for Disney Resorts in the United States.

Are you excited about The Adventure of Rhythm’s debut at Shanghai Disney Resort? Would you like to see a similar show debut at Disney World or Disneyland? Let Inside the Magic know in the comments below!
