Daisy Ridley will star in an upcoming, new, yet already controversial Star Wars movie, and she’s tantalizing fans with the possibility that Rey Skywalker might reunite with her Disney sequel trilogy co-stars.

The British actress first came to global prominence with The Force Awakens (2015), Disney’s blockbuster revival of the long-dormant franchise, portraying Rey, a mysterious Force-sensitive scavenger who becomes vital to the future of the galaxy. Daisy Ridley was arguably the lead of the sequel trilogy but shared nearly equal screen time with Adam Driver (as primary villain Kylo Ren), John Boyega (as former Stormtrooper Finn), and Oscar Isaac (as Resistance pilot Poe Dameron).

It is not surprising that fans are clamoring to know if Daisy Ridley will be joined by any of her former friends/enemies/love interests in a new Star Wars movie, but the actress herself is being pretty vague, even when asked directly. In a recent interview with Variety, Daisy Ridley was asked if it would “be weird to make a Star Wars movie without your co-stars, Adam Driver, John Boyega or Oscar Isaac?” Which sounds like a leading question if there ever was one.

Interestingly, Daisy Ridley seemed unwilling to shut out the possibility that any of those actors could return, saying, “No, because I don’t know what is what or who is who [in the upcoming movie]. So much has happened for me [since the sequel trilogy]. I feel like a grown-up now.”

Since the Star Wars sequel trilogy concluded with The Rise of Skywalker (2019), the various stars of the franchise have had differing takes on whether they would ever return to the characters. Adam Driver has pretty concretely said that he will not return to the franchise (although some fans think that may be a smokescreen), John Boyega has vocally expressed his disappointment with how his character arc was treated, and Oscar Isaac has remained pretty mum on the subject.

Daisy Ridley may be hedging her bets by not confirming or denying (even by implication) whether any of her former co-stars will appear. She also has openly said she herself has very little knowledge of the film at this point, although that could simply be part of Disney’s notoriously paranoid strategies to minimize leaks during production.

The upcoming Rey Skywalker film is currently in development, with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy attached as the first female and POC director in the franchise. Reportedly, the film will focus on the post-Rise of Skywalker galaxy and Rey’s attempts to build a new Jedi Order. No scheduled release date has been made public.
