Even at a very young age, Jenna Ortega has become an icon in the industry, especially for her work portraying Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s hit television show Wednesday.

In Wednesday, Ortega takes on the role of the iconic and enigmatic daughter of the Addams family, a character originally created by cartoonist Charles Addams. The show explores Wednesday’s life as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her psychic abilities, thwart monstrous killing sprees, and navigate the complexities of relationships. Jenna Ortega delivers a remarkable performance, balancing the darkly humorous and mysterious nature of the character with remarkable finesse. Her portrayal captures the essence of Wednesday Addams, and has since made her become a viral hit.

What makes Jenna Ortega’s performance stand out is her ability to infuse Wednesday with both vulnerability and strength. Her depiction allows the audience to connect with the character on a deeper level, emphasizing the challenges and uncertainties of adolescence while adding a supernatural twist. Her chemistry with the rest of the cast, including Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as her parents, Gomez and Morticia, also creates a unique and dynamic family dynamic in the show.

The involvement of Tim Burton as a producer in Wednesday adds an extra layer of intrigue and allure to the series. Burton’s signature visual style and penchant for the whimsically dark align perfectly with the world of the Addams family, and his influence is evident throughout the series. The dark, quirky, and visually stunning world of Wednesday is a testament to Burton’s unique vision, and Jenna Ortega is right at home in this realm.

The show quickly ascended up the ranks of popularity when its first season was released. In just five days of availability, Wednesday had already snagged more than 5.988 billion streaming minutes, which was the second-biggest week of streaming ever recorded by Nielsen. The show and its popularity have already got fans talking about a second season, and many insiders have reported that Netflix will be looking for Wednesday to become the new flag-bearer for the streaming platform once Stranger Things Season 5 is released and the show officially comes to an end.

Ortega’s show is expected to have multiple seasons developed, but Netflix faces an uphill battle in keeping the actress around for too long, as she has quickly ascended the ranks of popularity in Hollywood. Ortega is already reportedly set to reprise her role as Tara Carpenter in the Scream franchise. She joined the Paramount franchise for Scream 5 and Scream VI, which were both considered major successes.

Because of her scheduling, Netflix is facing a problem with how it might have to maneuver around to finally get Wednesday filmed. Netflix has shared that its top two priorities currently are Wednesday Season Two and Stranger Things Season Five. Writers have reportedly returned to work and are currently working on these two shows, but that doesn’t mean that they will be able to star production right away.

As we previously reported, Warner Bros. is currently in a heightened state to get its Beetlejuice 2 filming completed. The movie was reportedly set to be released in 2024, but there is still much work to be done. While most of the filming is complete, Ortega will reportedly have to be back on set to finish out production, which will take her attention away from Wednesday, at least for a few days or weeks.

While this delay won’t be catastrophic for Netflix, it does show the uphill battle that the streaming platform has in putting the show together, even after the script is written. Ortega will also have promotional duties at some point in the future with Beetlejuice 2, which could make things a little difficult if filming is still going on for Wednesday, or if filming starts for Scream.

There has been no indication on how the actress will lay out her schedule, but it certainly will be interesting to see. Beetlejuice 2 seems to be the most prominent project for her, meaning that Netflix will take a back seat at least for a short amount of time. After that, it could be on to Wednesday and Scream almost simultaneously, or we could see the horror franchise begin filming after Netflix is finished. Nothing has been confirmed at this time.
