There might be no one more dedicated than Disney fans. People travel worldwide to conventions like D23 and San Diego Comic-Con just to find out exclusive information, or they fly to the many Disney Parks to get their hands on exclusive merch. Well, now some fans have caused a bit of mayhem, forcing a convention to change its format into accepting overnight lines.

Disney has some of the best merchandise in the world, and sometimes fans can be overzealous when needing to get their hands on it. For instance, back in 2022, an exclusive Figment popcorn bucket saw Guests waiting up to six hours—just to get their hands on it.

Popcorn buckets seem to be all the rage, as the new 100th-anniversary Mickey Railroad bucket also caused many fans to book tickets just to get their hands on it. The rare bucket is fantastic and was only available at Disneyland Park in California. We are unsure if anyone flew thousands of miles to acquire it, but we imagine resellers will have a field day with online sales if they get their hands on the rare bucket.

Disney is also rolling out a new game called Disney Lorcana, which features a tabletop battle system similar to Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. Producing company Ravensburger has been rolling out rare cards at certain events, but Gen Con in Indiana saw the biggest successes with the game. So much success that it led to a rush at the event for the booth, in which some fans were shoved into walls.

Disney fans showed up in droves to Gen Con and had thought to do the thoughtful thing by creating a line of their own for those who showed up early enough to get their hands on the starter deck, Musketeer Mickey, and pin that the Ravensburger booth at Gen Con was offering.

Gen Con is the largest tabletop gaming convention in the United States, and Disney Lorcana had become a hit there, which no one had presumed would happen. Long lines and general confusion led to a rush of people trying to get to the booth to get their hands on the rare cards offered.

Though some fans attempted to start their line early Thursday, event organizers instituted a policy allowing everyone to rush in and fill all available space. This caused massive confusion, and some fans were pushed into walls and ran aside. Other fans complained heavily about being there early enough to get the items but had been ignored by event staff after the staff implemented its own plan.

Gen Con eventually calmed the situation down, though they had to change their own format completely. The convention has long spoken against overnight lines in its policy, but that changed once Disney Lorcana came rolling into town. Gen Con announced that fans could line up as early as 6 p.m. last night, and the Ravensburger booth would open at 10 a.m. this morning.

The event did something nice by offering coffee, donuts, and orange juice to those dedicated fans waiting overnight for this starter pack and Mickey card.

Some Pokemon cards have been heading to auction and fetching huge prices that sometimes reach over $1 million. We are unsure if Disney Lorcana will have that same pull yet, as it’s new, but we imagine that certain cards will hold high rarity in the coming months. Resellers might also find a way to nab these cards and throw them online for hundreds of dollars.

Disney Lorcana officially launches on August 18, and if this convention going crazy is any indication of what’s to come, fans will have to deal with long lines and resellers for the foreseeable future.
