After a three-year wait, the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Southern California is back! Disney fans have descended on Anaheim Convention Center as Disney Park and entertainment news, exclusive merchandise, and a sprawling show floor packed with perks and experiences take center stage in what will be a very busy weekend.

However, as with anything Disney-related, and where there are exclusive perks and merch available, resellers are uplifting prices, into the thousands, for one D23 Expo 2022 collectible.

With panels including Boundless Future: Disney Parks, Experiences and Products hosted by division Chairman, Josh D’Amaro, Studio Showcases for Disney live-action, animation, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars, and an up-close look at Walt Disney’s plane, the D23 Expo 2022 is one for the fans of The Walt Disney Company’s extensive portfolio.

Returning to the Anaheim Convention Center for the first time since 2019, the event eventually sold out as Disney fans clamored for a chance to see, hear, and buy all things Disney over the three-day convention. Packed full of perks and exclusive offers for Disney+ subscribers and D23 Gold Members, fans of the Mouse House are buying merchandise in droves — and some are selling it on with massive markups.

This is the case for the event-only Disney Lorcana card set. Retailing for $49.99, Guests who purchase this limited edition set — called the D23 Expo Collector’s Set — will receive a free promo card: Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor with a matching pin.

Like many Disneyana collectibles (who can forget the 6-hour lines for the Figment Popcorn Bucket at Walt Disney World Resort?) this limited edition promo card is now being resold for hundreds of dollars, with some heading upwards of $1,500. Let’s not forget that this is a free item…

Multiple eBay listings show the Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor Disney Lorcana trading card with prices ranging from the low hundreds with the highest being circa $1,000 – $1,500. And while this seems like an extreme markup, many of the eBay listings have multiple watchers. It’s probable that before the weekend is over, every promo card will be snapped up by those unable to get their hands on a set or those not attending the D23 Expo 2022.

What is Disney Lorcana?

Disney Lorcana is a new trading card game by Ravensburger — the company behind the popular table-top game, Disney Villainous. The first Disney Lorcana set will be called Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter, with the D23 Expo Collector’s set featuring six cards — Captain Hook, Elsa, Stitch, Robin Hood, Cruella de Vil, and Maleficent.

The game can be described as (via ComicBook):

In Disney Lorcana, players will take on the mantle of an Illumineer, who use Glimmers of Disney characters taken from the Great Illuminary, a compendium of every Disney song and story ever made. Details about the new game and gameplay are largely being kept under wraps, but Ravensburger confirmed that while Disney Lorcana is intended to be an easy-to-learn game, the card game should still appeal to trading card game fans.

Disney Lorcana will release in Fall 2023.
