In reaction to a series of articles about the live-action remake of Snow White, some extreme Disney comments arose. Readers fell into a few camps about the “woke” approach to the original feature-length Disney film.
Snow White: What the “Woke” Idea Means
The Snow White “woke” concept takes a Disney movie, quite literally the most dated one, and adapts it to mirror the times. Disney Adults are a phenomenon, but the point of Mickey and Minnie is that they are characters that follow alongside the population for a lifetime.
Change is a certainty, so the modern Snow White embraced that with a new take on the classic tale, originally adapted from the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tale. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, per Sir Isaac Newton. Accordingly, the voices of the masses came out in different tones. You can still find the originals online, but these have been adjusted for grammar and brevity.
Standing By Disney’s Side: Woke Wins
There is one side where the Snow White woke idea is excellent. Rachel Ziegler and Gal Gadot bring impressive acting talent to the role of Snow White. Dwarf actors are joined by an array of magical creatures. Prince Charming is a thing of the past, and now Snow White and the Prince Charming story is different.
Todas, the Walt Disney Company, approached the film with finesse instead of reinforcing stereotypes. A Disney spokesperson went on record about wanting to embrace magical creatures without reinforcing stereotypes, similar to the Brothers Grimm approach.
One user, Sierra, said:
- “What annoys me about this isn’t Disney, but Peter Dinklage (best known as Tyrion from Game of Thrones). He’s the one that raised concerns about this, and then Disney changed it. Which, as a small person himself, he’s entitled to.
- “But he was incredibly hypocritical. He said it exploited people like him. But in Game of Thrones, the entire series, it’s remarked about him not being as worthy as his siblings because of who he was. There are “dwarf jokes,” and his character makes many references to himself.
- “So why is it ok for him, but not other actors like him? He’s famous because of that show. He certainly didn’t seem to mind how his character was portrayed. I heard that many little people were offended by him doing that, saying they should get to choose if they want to take on a “dwarf” role, not have it decided for them.”
Another Disney commenter, A, noted,
- “Disney should stick to the original content, with some exceptions.
- “If they do want to change the content, change the story. They were successful when they created Tiana and the story of the Princess and [the] Frog in Louisiana.”
“Go Woke, Go Broke”: Anger Towards Disney
There is a co for every pron, and not everyone thinks that a pc Snow White is a good idea. The idea of losing the dwarf icon or the essence of the original animated film strikes fear in many.
And though that was a goal of the Brothers Grimm, Snow White has the attention of those looking to define woke using examples like Snow Whit,e the new remake. The anti-woke community believes strongly in protecting children and finds the woke ideology concerning.
Username Razor was on the other side of the fence:
- “It is not appropriate to erase disabled people to avoid “insulting” disabled people, mainly not just because of one Woke actor and group from the UK.
- “THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. NO CHILD SHOULD BE SHOULD THIS FILM.”
‘No Body’ and K Starr went on to say:
- “Disneys [launch] over the cliff of leftism [and] woke [couldn’t] be more apparent. The company will continue to spiral [financially] as they program children with the warped view of the left.
- “When you abandon morals and turn children into targets of a [ideology] that most parents are appalled at, you are drifting. I refuse to go to the parks and watch movies and know I am not alone.
- “We used to go 3-4x a year. My kids grew up on those movies… so sad. [They won’t] get my money nor my children.”
Finally, one user, Christopher, seemed betrayed not at the “woke” issue but at how Disney’s approaching it:
- “Disney keeps getting successful Ips, and they bastardize them. The Disney trilogy made money, but that was more because of what star wars was. But the complete [bas***tar***n] has made it where most do not bother anymore.
- “Hispanics, Native Americans, Blacks….every race, they all have a rich history of pulling from, and instead of doing that, woke liberals take established IPS and race and gender switch them, and it almost always fails.”
Disney Benefits from Divisive Comments
Disney gets in the news whether the comment is pro or con. The very fact that a piece of art is subversive causes interest. Extreme Disney comments surrounding a new report might seem discouraging, but it’s quite the opposite. The division is power, just watch Oppenheimer and see how splitting the atom went.
On the one hand, those against the “woke” piece will likely engage due to needing to have seen it to speak to it. Conversely, those who rally against the “anti-woke” community that argues against woke ideology are likelier to engage with the material because it becomes more relatable. The onset of digitization offered a carte blanche of anonymity to those speaking out. And that’s good news.
Why Extreme Disney Comments Are an Essential
When you get extreme comments, it’s a chance to engage meaningfully. It offers access to the zeitgeist in a raw and honest manner. Isolating ideologies through division has long been a widely used propaganda method.
It relies on emotion and comments to give individuals an option for action, to have all voices heard. Whether pro or con woke ideology, the idea of a Snow White remake is a very divisive topic.
