As Crowley so succinctly declared in the opening lines of the new Good Omens, “I’m back.”
And he is back – David Tennant’s Crowley and Michael Sheen’s Aziraphale are back, with a second season of the popular Amazon Prime show set to premiere on July 28. Now, we know much more about what will happen this season.
That was the big question thus far – after all, the book upon which the first season of Good Omens is based has no material left, as the story was concluded at the end of the first season.
However, author Neil Gaiman has previously confirmed that the second season will be based upon an unfinished sequel he and his late co-author Terry Pratchett had been working on.
This sequel focused on Gabriel, the morally upright and unquestioning messenger who served as a staunch rule enforcer last season – and based on the trailer, it’s clear that that will happen in Season 2.

It seems now that he will be breaking the rules, as the trailer focuses on one fact that everyone in Heaven looks very concerned about: Gabriel has gone missing.
Except he isn’t missing – not to us – he’s hiding in Aziraphale’s bookshop, wearing a flannel sheet like a toga.
It seems like Gabriel is having some sort of midlife crisis – or whatever you call it when an immortal being has some kind of breakdown about their life – and has chosen to hide away with the only other “traitor” angel he’s known to break the mold.

There’s more to it than that, however – it seems the angel Gabriel may have fallen in love, as everyone’s favorite quote from the trailer is something he says to Aziraphale:
“You know what it’s like when you don’t know anything at all and yet you’re totally certain that everything would be better if you were just near one particular person?”
The editors were gracious enough to follow this with a shot of Aziraphale trying to suppress a smile. Then one of him and Crowley sitting together peacefully – no doubt enjoying their new life of empty nesters’ domestic bliss after the events of last season.

Gabriel, however, seems as though he may present a problem. Heaven wants him back, and he doesn’t want to go; this puts Aziraphale in the uncomfortable position of protecting him – and, once again, having to lie to the other angels.
Based on a shot of a rock thrown through a window with the words “SURRENDER THE ANGLE” on it, and a choice quote from Aziraphale, they may just have to go to war over it. (Again.)
There’s sure to be a lot of fun in store as if a war is starting, the Demons and all of Hell will be involved – that is their territory, after all. Crowley will sneak into Heaven dressed as an angel, and another angel will join them in their double-crossing – and yes, there will be another war.
We’ll find out exactly how it all comes together when Good Omens premieres on Amazon Prime on July 28.
