When it comes to Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort, there is an ongoing rivalry that will exist for as long as the two theme park moguls continue to exist. When Guests visit Orlando, they often tend to visit either of these Parks, or both. Considering they are both just a few minutes from each other, it is easy for Guests to want to split their time between Disney and Universal.
That being said, of course, each respective Park wants to keep Guests at their Park and not allow them to venture to “the dark side” (whichever side you may consider as dark, of course). Universal Orlando Resort tends to be the bigger “bully” in the ongoing battle as their social media team often conducts very cheeky and playful Tweets at Disney’s expense. Whenever something goes wrong at the Mouse House, you can likely expect to see Universal remarking on it moments later.
Even the characters at Universal are joining in on the competition. Sometimes, when Guests are visiting Walt Disney World or Universal on vacation, they may choose to wear merchandise from one Park to the other. For example, it is not uncommon to see a Guest at Universal show up with Mickey Mouse ears. That being said, even though you can do this, it does not mean you will not have a target on your back for the rest of your visit!
In front of Transformers: The Ride, Guests can sometimes meet some of the Transformers themselves, including the lovable Bumblebee. Ro (@sunflower_ro22) visited the character with a pair of Mickey ears on, and when posing for a photo, Bumblebee went to take off the ears! The character did not actually touch the Guest, but mimed the ear removal.

This fun little jab at Disney brought a big smile to the Guest’s faces, as well as the surrounding Guests watching the interaction and waiting for theirs. It is moments like this that Team Members create which leave Guests with very memorable memories on their Universal Orlando vacation. The altercation between the Guest and the character is very fun to watch, and the music only helps to add to the party! Read more on that here.
The idea of wearing Disney clothing to Universal has been an ongoing discussion that has sparked the interest of many theme park fans. There have been various Reddit threads about it, and it seems the decision is split. For those on vacation in Orlando, the idea of wearing any theme park merchandise seems appropriate to most. If you are paying for a pair of Mickey ears, many feel that they are associated with Orlando theme parks, and can be worn to Disney. More so than Disney ears, you will often see Guests in Disney clothing at Universal Orlando Resort.
It seems that those who are bigger theme park fans and pay attention to the news cycles that come from the theme park community find it a fashion faux pas to wear another theme park’s attire to a Park. However, being a big theme park fan myself, I can say that I have work a Mickey Mouse fanny pack to Universal with a Bride of Frankenstein pin on it, and vice versa with Disney World!
At the moment, Revenge of the Mummy is also under a massive refurbishment at Universal Studios Florida. That being said, Guests can still enjoy attractions such as Rip Ride Rockit, MEN IN BLACK Alien Attack, Transformers: The Ride, and more. Visit Diagon Alley in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, where you can venture into Gringotts! Islands of Adventure has some fantastic attractions like the new Jurassic World VelociCoaster, Jurassic Park River Adventure, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Doctor Doom’s Fearfall, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, and more! Volcano Bay is also open for those who want to get their splash on, and at the moment, Epic Universe is under construction with a potential 2025 opening date.
