Last night, November 1, 2021, saw the much-anticipated return of the Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights at the Tokyo Disney Resort. With Guests gathering around Tokyo Disneyland to witness the return of this Disney staple, it was noticed that the Park had changed the greeting of the Electrical Parade in an effort to build inclusivity.

Tokyo Disney Resort was the first Disney Park to open outside of the United States and is wholly operated by The Oriental Land Company and not by The Walt Disney Company. Tokyo Disneyland was joined by a second theme park, Tokyo DisneySea, in 2001 and a retail complex, Ikspiari, in 2000. The theme parks contain fan-favorite Disney attractions like Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain, and Jungle Cruise: Wildlife Exhibitions across lands such as Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland. An all-new Toy Story Hotel will open at the Tokyo Disney Resort in 2022.

Due to the pandemic, Tokyo Disney Resort was closed for four months, reopening in July 2020. And now, after well over a year of waiting, the Disney parade — Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights — finally returned to the Park, lighting up Cinderella Castle and venturing Park-wide to bring the nighttime Disney magic to Guests all across Disneyland. There was one notable change in the parade and that comes in the form of the opening announcement.

Instead of greeting Guests with the usual “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Tokyo Disneyland proudly present…”, Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights now begins with the following:

“Good evening and welcome, one and all…”

The announcement then continues with the same introduction that Guests have come to expect from the nighttime parade. We can hear the new introduction and see the parade begin in this reposted video from @AlexValve:

The classic opening for the Electrical Parade (‘Ladies and Gentleman, boys and girls’) has been updated at Tokyo Disneyland: ‘Good evening and welcome, one and all’. It seems Disneyland is next for their inmortal Main Street Electrical Parade.

For reference, we can see in this video from February 2020 the Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights had its original introductory greeting.

This is not the first instance in Disney replacing a gendered introduction at their Parks. Earlier this year, the fan-favorite and now retired, Happily Ever After in Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort, was changed to a more inclusive announcement.

For Disneyland Resort Guests, Disney Parks recently teased the return of the Main Street Electrical Parade, although a confirmed date for the nighttime show is yet to be announced.
