This week is already a good one for Star Wars fans. Lucasfilm finally debuted the teaser trailer for showrunner Robert Rodriguez’s The Book of Boba Fett. The new Star Wars story will release December 29, 2021, and reunite Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett with his new bounty hunter companion, mercenary Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen).

And it seems, one hugely popular character, Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin AKA The Mandalorian is set to star in the new series.

Announced in a brutal fashion at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2, The Book of Boba Fett has been highly anticipated. Setting himself upon Jabba’s throne on Tatooine, Boba Fett looks set to take on the criminal underworld with Shand at his side. While many fans thought The Book of Boba Fett will see the original trilogy character seek out those who wronged him from his new home of Jabba’s Palace, the new trailer looks as though Boba will establish a new crime syndicate on Tatooine rooted in respect and an element of democracy.

The Book of Boba Fett has been teased as “The Mandalorian Season 2.5″, and many of the creatives serving on showrunner Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian will be back to helm episodes including Bryce Dallas Howard (“Chapter 4: The Sanctuary”, “Chapter 11: The Heiress”).

It was rumored that as well as returning directors, some of the characters made popular on The Mandalorian will also be joining Morrison and Wen as part of the new bounty hunter series. In fact, according to the new trailer, Pedro Pascal’s eponymous hero, Din Djarin, looks set to be involved in Rodriguez’s show now that Grogu AKA “Baby Yoda” is in the safe hands of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).

The official trailer opens with shots of Jango Fett’s son, with Boba Fett saying, “I am not a bounty hunter” and another unnamed voice — the captions on the trailer call this character ALIEN 1 — replies, “I’ve heard otherwise”. The voiceover then says, “I know that you sit on the throne of your former employer”.

Fans were quick to notice the similarities between this voice and the one they have grown accustomed to over two seasons of The Mandalorian. While there are no visuals of Pascal, this potential inclusion of his voice directly referencing the plot of The Book of Boba Fett pretty much suggests that he will appear in the new television series. However, keep in mind neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have confirmed Pascal’s appearance in the series — the actor is currently filming The Last of Us for HBO, but production on The Mandalorian Season 3 is said to have begun.

Over on Twitter, fans couldn’t contain their excitement. Cris (@gar_serim) said:

Another Star Wars fan, Caterina (@alpacinofilms), stated:

Millie (@me_halprin) could not contain their excitement:

AM I GOING CRAZY OR AM I HEARING PEDRO PASCAL VOICE IN HIS DIN VOICE WHEN THIS ALIEN WAS SPEAKING?? #TheBookofBobaFett

I’M 100% SURE THAT VOICE IS PEDRO/DIN

With many, many other tweets sharing the excitement at hearing Pascal’s Din Djarin voice after almost a year.

The Book of Boba Fett will join The Mandalorian Season 1 and The Mandalorian Season 2 as part of the new post-Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi (1983) era of the Star Wars universe but has also been confirmed to “go back in time”. These two TV shows will also share this part of the Star Wars galaxy timeline with Rosario Dawson’s new Ahsoka Tano series, Ahsoka. This Disney+ series is set to bring back Ahsoka Tano’s former Jedi Master, Anakin Skywalker AKA Darth Vader, portrayed by Hayden Christensen.

Rounding out the line-up, per the original announcement from Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, should have been Rangers of the New Republic which looked set to give Cara Dune star, Gina Carano, a headlining series. However, due to her controversial social media posts, the actress and former MMA star was fired from Lucasfilm, resulting in this series no longer being active.

It looks set to be a stellar year for Star Wars as The Book of Boba Fett has its premiere right at the end of 2021 with Obi-Wan Kenobi starring Ewan McGregor, Dave Filoni’s The Bad Batch Season 2, and Andor all confirmed for next year. Get your lightsaber ready, Star Wars fans, the galaxy far, far away is going to be streamed right inside your home.
