The Disney+ Day news just keeps coming and 2022 is looking like it’s going to be a fantastic time to enjoy several new Disney films. Disney has revealed a first look image at the Sanderson Sisters in Hocus Pocus 2. We have also seen the new Disechanted logo revealed along with a message from Enchanted stars, Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey. Not only are these two 2022 films highly-anticipated, but we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the live-action Pinocchio.
First announced as part of Disney Investor Day in December 2020, the live-action Pinocchio is said to follow along closely with the storyline for the 1940 Walt Disney Animation Studios classic, Pinocchio. We’ve seen several other classic films become live-action films in recent years with movies such as Cinderella (2015), The Jungle Book (2016), Beauty and the Beast (2017), Mary Poppins (2018), Aladdin (2019), Dumbo (2019), Mulan (2020), and Cruella (2021). Plus, a live-action Snow White is in the works with the recent announcement that Gal Gadot will be the Evil Queen. Disney is on a classic turned live-action kick!
On December 10, 2020, Walt Disney Studios shared a sneak peek teaser into the live-action Pinocchio and announced Tom Hanks would be starring with Robert Zemeckis directing the film:
Now, Disney+ has taken to Twitter to provide an update with, “The live-action retelling of #Pinocchio, starring Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, Luke Evans and the voices of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Keegan-Michael Key, and Lorraine Bracco, directed by Robert Zemeckis is coming Fall 2022 to #DisneyPlus. #DisneyPlusDay”
The star-studded cast is sure to impress! We’re thrilled Tom Hanks will be playing Geppetto. Cynthia Erivo will be The Blue Fairy, as Luke Evans will take on the role of The Coachman who is the owner and operator of Pleasure Island. Pinocchio will be voiced by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be the voice of Pinocchio’s “conscience” as Jiminy Cricket. Keegan-Michael Key will voice “Honest” John Worthington Foulfellow. With Lorraine Bracco voicing Sofia the Seagull.
With the Disney+ tweet, we now have confirmation that the live-action Pinocchio will premier in Fall 2022, along with Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted. While debut dates have yet to be revealed, we’ll be sure to keep checking for further details as Disney releases them!
